RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

Thanks all for the replies, very helpful! I was led to understand that you couldn't use DSP effect/EQs on the digital outs on the Black Edition??
That is not true. I've used my BE's digital outputs with the DSP. It's possible one or more of the modes bypasses the DSP, but at least one of the modes worked with the DSP when I tested it (I don't recall, and I don't have another DAC to test with at the moment).

Check out the manual, which has diagrams of all the modes.

One limitation of the BE that the 2/4 rectifies, however, is the BE cannot output balanced headphones and line out simultaneously. Rather, the BE requires a phone/line toggle, which can be mapped to the remote control or toggled in the UI. I don't think the DAC FS has this issue, either.

In practice, this means with the BE, you need to toggle the output between phones and line when you swap between the balanced headphone mode and an external amp or speakers where in the 2/4, and presumably the DAC FS, both outputs are on all the time. If you use the BE's headphone out put in single ended mode, this is not an issue.

Huge thanks. I went for the Black Edition. In the future I could use the BE to EQ/DSP any Dac/AMP setup I have or have a superb standalone unit for another room. I note that you can connect a subwoofer to the RME as well! Tempted...

Btw...I've used EqualizerAPO plenty times, but what with flakey Windows updates affecting audio, I'd had enough. Besides, hardware EQ is arguably always better.

The RME's hardware EQ sounds significantly better than Peace/APO so I think you'll be very pleased with your new purchase.

I almost wanted to pay him, but I recognize my speakers and floor, lol. ChatGPT also told me the photo with time stamp looked real.

Been eyeing this combo for a bit now, as I'm on the fence for a desktop setup for my new headphones ( Empyrean II's ) using a mojo II currently and was curious to hear back from anyone else w/ the same headphones paired with this. I love the EQ on the mojo but def wanna drive it better and this seems to fit the bill vs getting a WA6F that way I'm not disconnecting/reconnecting my mojo II. Is this still viable today ?
