Although It might take a bit longer than I thought since I got a few other review units and I prefer to finish those first so I dont have them in my mind and so that they arent delayed that long. (not like there is a timer for when you gotta finish a review so...)
I guess it's better to take your time with things. And Dunu esp doesn't pressurize about posting reviews. I have been delaying my SA6 review for weeks lol and they've been fine with it so far. Hopefully I'll right that wrong this week.

As long as it stays on topic and is informative instead of rambling, I don't care how long it is.

Well, you be surprised for sure. I definitely think I understand how you feel about the NM2+ when you are looking at the graph lol. Somehow that upper-mid/lower-treble area on the Zen isnt actually bothering me.....

The interesting thing is that before I got the Zen, I did try to EQ the Oxygen to the Zen graph and it sounded horrible to me. So when I got the Zen and could compare them directly, I created a different EQ preset for the oxygen that does not look like the graph but it now sounds much more similar.

Although this review will go over the head-fi character limit of 50 000 lol. I am around 30% done and I have around 5 500 words already.....
That’s what I was thinking, that the Zen impressions may be analogous to the NM2+ impressions. Some people will love the sound signature, even if they tend to be sensitive to upper mids, others will just find it too bright. However, regarding the NM2+, there were quite a lot of people who found the NM2+ too bright at first, but over time started to really like it.

Are you one of them?

I never found the Zen to be too bright even from the start.

The thing that will be the biggest problem on the Zen with most people I think, is that rolled-off upper-treble.

While that roll-off is present in other high regarded single DD´s such as the EX1000
graph (69).png

I find that the Zen especially is hit pretty hard by that, that cause it to lack air and micro-details. And its not like the driver isnt capable, with just a little high-shelf boost with eq, it changed and improved quite a lot. (more than the EX1000, where eq doesnt really help the upper-treble that much... although the EX1000 sounds airier due to its vents making it more like an open-back headphone or an earbud, so you get actual real air in that one.)

Nope. I liked the NM2+ right from the start. I just remember encouraging a handful of people to stick with it, and give the NM2+ a chance for a while, before writing it off.

That’s what has me the most hesitant about getting the Zen, the lack of upper treble. While I don’t doubt that the Zen is superior to the Believe in most aspects, the Believe has great treble extension IMHO.

As a reviewer, I do try to maintain some semblance of impartialness, but I have to agree that the folks at DUNU are awesome. Very receptive of feedback - be it positive or negative - and always willing to take the time to share what's going on behind the scenes. Transparency like that is something you don't see often in this hobby.

I'd be interested to see what you think of the SA6 too!

Wait, what? :me cries in my <2000 word reviews:

yeah, I love that Dunu is very transparent and shares a ton of behind the scene stuff.

Haha, I seem to have no problems writing a long review if it is something I enjoy listening to. Something bad on the other hand....makes me want to bash my head in the wall and write as short as possible. :joy:

Although, I dont write everything at once, that would definitely kill me.

Depending on what music you listen to, that upper-treble flaw will hit you less. Although it is actually very versatile.

For example, I wouldnt recommend it for someone that listens to classic music because instruments like cymbals will be very recessed and violins wont reach the highest notes, while overall there will be a lack of air and micro-details.

But for electronic music, that I believe dont actually reach that high up wont actually get much trouble from the roll-off. Although there will still be a lack of air and micro-details and size of the soundstage isnt that big because of that roll-off as well.

(the soundstage on the Zen is actually the second smallest out of the 9 iems I compared it with (it beats the Blon bl-03 at least lol).)

I wonder if your unit was somehow faulty. Your impressions are quite different from the other reviews on this site.

No, idea. But you might have noticed that all the other reviews here (and elsewhere) are review units.... 🤦‍♂️

Getting really sick and tired of getting scammed by people that just dont know what the **** they are talking about...

I just dont understand what some tuners are thinking.

Like we have some iems, with exotic drivers that sounds very unique and different. They obviously dont have a natural timbre, BUT their tuning doesnt need it. Because they arent intended to be used with more timbre picky genres (acoustic/vocals) and is going for a more fun tuning, which you can tell by the bass elevation (which wouldnt be a good match for acoustic/vocals anyway).

Then we get stuff like the TSMR - 4 pro (and the Blessing 2), that is actually trying to specialize in those timbre picky tracks by having a lower bass elevation and with a boosted treble with forward vocals which suits those tracks a lot. But stumble hard when it comes to timbre. So they end up being specialists that doesnt sound natural on the tracks they are supposed to be good with and since they dont have a big bass boost, they are not suited for tracks like EDM, trance and hip-hop where timbre isnt the top priority.

The result is that they end up without a job in a market that is getting tougher and tougher.

I think there are several factors in play here: user age, tuning preference, individual sound perception.
I finally decided that the LZ A6 isn't for me and I put it up for sale, but I wouldn't part with Blessing 2.
