Otherwise I listened to the mk2 yesterday (PlusSound Tri Copper cable x8 - excellent matching - and Canal Works tips, large bore form factor - the same- ) : still over excellent in my book.

I have revisited SP3 after my first major impression, and I need to revise it in a near future. After some tip rolling and doing a critical cable rolling, SP3 has made its way to my top 10 all time favourite, and I believe it is slowly making its way to my top 5 all time favourite.

SP3 needs a good shielded cable. It doesn't quiet matter the material, but it must be shielded. I notice that with properly shielded cable, the background becomes more quiet.

Tip wise, find the smallest tip that allows you the deepest inseration. Deep inseration brings the best that SP3 has to offer, fast speedy bass, extended treble, warm midrange.

Update 2: Adding shielded silver cable to SP3 is a must.

I tried Sp3 with a relatively unknown cable maker, Zephone Silver Dragon V3. His brand is well over ten years and known for high-quality, low-cost cable in China. I also have his higher-end custom copper alloy, but non-shielded. To my surprise, his lower-end entry cable sounds much better on SP3.

I then tried several other shielded cables from another brand; they all sounded better than non-shielded cables. I then tried the silver variety, and to my ears, silver shielded cable sounded the most ideal on SP3.

With that said, SP3 has made it to my top 5. But requires a lot of WORK to find the right pairing.
