Then pretty soon you will be looking for a pair of SR-5 drivers to make StaxQuart's...... Might fit?

I'm listening to the 45x right now since I can stand it more than the 55x. I guess it could make a decent lo-fi rock/metal phone with its boom-boom bass to mask its other flaws, but I'm still not moved by them.

Have you tried EQ-ing them by chance?

I don't have EQ available in my normal headphone rig, since it's never been necessary for any of the other phones I own. My PC isn't setup for high quality playback, so that isn't much of an option either.

Now I'm kinda bummed. I didn't expect that turn for the worse...and I didn't even get them yet. Oh well.

Do the 45x and 55x have the same drivers? What else will fit in there? Anything from AKG, Beyer or AT at the lower price point for drivers?

Don't feel bad, if you don't like them sell them and get your $30 back lol. That's what my plan is.

Nah, just a bit of a shock...

I'll use em for pads at the very least. I love my Beyers. Maybe K240S drivers fit in the Q45X? It sounds like the K240S is a big step up.

Good call actually, if I don't like these I was planning on getting beyers, I guess the extra pads are worth the money.

I think K240 series drivers are more like 32mm.

I wouldn't go nuts with it. The shell affects sound quality significantly. The amount of damping is important, as I'm sure the shape is as well. Putting AT drivers in won't make it sound exactly like an AT, but it'll be fun to play with.

I'd say wait until yours arrives and burn in and then make decisions. These things sound very different to different ears. I like both, with the 45x being the better of the two; Fitz at this point dislike both but think the 45x is more bearable; and scompton think the 55x is good while 45x is horrible..... All different reactions. You probably won't know how you like them until you listen to yours, after burn in.
