REVIEW - Yulong Audio Sabre DA8 Reference DAC

Isn't it the same as DA8 with better PSU and boutique parts?
Like the A8 is two A18 for 3x the price...

In a nutshell, yes.... I'm sure there are some very specific, minute things which add up to some real complexity. So it's probably more difficult than just throwing two units together and calling it a day. But yeah, not really a value product at all. Never meant to be.

There will be, probably, an upgraded DA8 "2015 version"...
P.S. Looking only at the spec the DA8 has better measures than the D8 (which does not mean anything because we listen to music and not to the measures...)

It's all I can say NOW: "probably"

I have no inside knowledge of such a plan, but it doesn't seem unreasonable. The original DA8 was released in mid 2013, so a 2015 release would be approximately 2 years later. That seems like a good time frame for a refresh... assuming there's some new design ideas or improvements Yulong wants to add.

I really wanted to try this one, maybe got a bit too desperate and it fired back; a scammer had his way with my $$$ and now I will have to look for an alternative in the sub $500 range. Anything comparable to it in the "soft" mode, perhaps sans the DSD capability?

Nothing too unusual I guess... Found a classified here from a certain poster that wasn't taken by anyone, contacted him via PM and sent him funds marked as a gift (uh oh). Gave him like 3-4 month to ship it out and he kept inventing different excuses. Told me he would refund it at the beginning then changes his tune at the end acts like he did nothing wrong. Oh well, live and learn!

I was torn between a used DA8 and a brand new DM source at the time. Keep thinking I should have gone with the latter :frowning2:

Just a heads up that I listed my Yulong DA8 in mint condition on the for sale forums in case anyone is interested.

What cable should i go for with HD800 and DA8 combo? Cheap one from china or perhaps something more premium? What connections should i go for? I just lost right channel because the wire broke from the tip.

Edit: Can i use wire with 3pin connectors from the back of DA8 if i find wire that has them in female? Does this have any advantage over the single-end, more power perhaps?

Youtube educated me about the difference in cables, so im gonna go with balanced 3-pin xlr and use male to female adapter. Reason for doing this, im gonna buy A28 later on so it would be nice that i won't have to buy new cable again. Should be a good match DA8+A28 eh?
