Finaly I've change the chinese stock tubes with EL84 Electro-harmonix and NOS 6N3P General electric, date packed 5/85. What could I say...from the first moment was a big improvment over the old sound; I know that I'll have to burn the tubes over 300 hours but even so, I'm very happy

with it.

I haven't done tube rolling before, but will attempt it in hopes of ridding my P-100 of a nasty hum. (per earlier post: Hum occurs with all permutations of headsets, inputs, cabling, even in different houses, though not when I took the unit in to the retailer.) From earlier in this thread I see preferences for

* NOS Sylvania grey-plate 6BQ5’s and black-plate 2C51’s
* Amperex Bugle Boy "D" getter EL84's and Bendix 2C51's
* 1959 Amperex D getter EL84's with the RCA Command Series 5670's
* EL84 Electro-harmonix and NOS 6N3P General electric

Is the choice of tubes influenced by headphone pairing? Any suggestions for a good match with Senn HD650s?

Thanks!

My suggestion would be to start with ONE new set of tubes and see how the hum goes. I'd try the Sylvanias first - don't spend the big $$$ on the Amperexes until you know for sure the amp can be hum free for you.

The Yarland is now $395 instead of $495.I have one and there is no hum whatsoever even with low impedance phones like the Grado's.On top of that the EL84 is a fabulous tube to listen to along with the 5670/2C51 /396A family of tubes.I'm listening with the Grado PS1000 and I'm thoroughly impressed.

Where did you find the Yarland for $395?

I use the Rega Saturn as my source.Check out my profile as the choice of my tubes plays a big role in how the Yarland sounds as well.
