REVIEW: Xiaomi Piston 2 - Re-defining "Budget-Fi"?
May 8, 2014 at 12:47 AM Post #17 of 156
I got mine from friend who came visit from China. The build quality is not that great as it looks in picture if you take a closer look at the product, but i have to admit for a $15 product, i cannot complain.

So the first thing I see when I ebay Xiaomi Piston is version '1.0'.  Are the differences large?  The housings look identical from the stock photos
A US seller is selling for $10, thought I might grab a few as gift fillers haha

If you look at some promo graphics:

  1. The first version tried to emulate the Apple earpod sound.

  1. The second version Sennheiser CX 300 and AKG K374.

Guess they would not make a big difference then, considering that they would be replacing earpods

Thanks for the review. There is a simple solution to the veil in the mids. If you remove the foam inside and put RE0/400 filters on the nozzle, you will almost get rid of that veil and gain some detail and clarity. Of course the bass will be tighter and faster than unmoded Pİstons and will become more balanced.

Please excuse my ignorance about this topic in advance.  Does the mod you suggest imply that you have to buy both the Pistons and HiFiMAN RE-400?  This would seem to negate the "budget" aspect of the Pistons.

User bhazard (or the guy who prompted me to buy the Pistons in the first place) said that the Pistons 2.0 is significantly clearer than that of its predecessor.

Wow, I only just noticed something. The frontpage said "Piston 2" and not "Pistons 2.0" which they are officially called. I was wondering if someone could change this, since if a lot of people start catching onto the Pistons, they might end up calling it as the Piston...and that don't sound right.

Yeah, was a bit difficult finding the genuine model when including '2' and not '2.0' haha

Penon Audio calls them Piston, not Pistons.
