Not to me. I put value on what gives me staifaction which in this case is the actual sound. I will not buy an amp for its design but for its sound. I rather buy an amp that is class A/B or even D if it sounds better than a pure class A. What matters to me is the sound not the topology of the desing but that is just to me.
^ which part of 25mA bias, 63mW into 50 ohms before switching out of Class A didn't you understand? And the 25mA is the MAX value from the datasheet... 20mA is TYPICAL.
63mw into 50ohms isn't a huge amount of power (if that is the correct figure, didn't check).
Max SPL (assuming you are playing digital files through your DAC which peak at 0dbfs) would be just over 100db (given by (thanks NwAvGuy!) sensitivity in dB/mW + 10 * LOG ( Pmax in mW))
It dropping out of Class A in normal operation is hence not particularly likely for normal-level listening, but certainly feasible (dependent on content and listening level).
I guess there is some variablility in the HE-6 drivers. My pair measured 49 ohms each side but the one from a friend of mine just measured 37.5 ohms on each side. I am actually wondering is they put HE-500 drivers in his HE-6 since the spec of the HE-500 is 38 ohms.

Are the amps bridged or paralled? Assuming the former, then not for current, no. The maximum current draw before dropping out of Class A is the same whether single ended or bridged.
In this case, bridging doubles the voltage swing only.

Hi Jose. I'm almost certain this isn't the case. I owned two HE500s and compared them with the two HE6s side by side. The sound is much too different. The chassis is nearly identical in every parameter so the difference must come from the drivers. Also, the drivers look different once you take off the earpads.
I can't imagine Fang and co. pulling a move like that...and even if they did, your friend would notice the difference if he had previously heard the HE6.
I did not know that the HE-500 divers look different and he confirmed his look like the HE-6 not the HE-500. It is just carzy to have 23% variability in ohms from pair to pair.
I just measured the impedence of my HE500 it is 52.2 and 51.8 ohms. Much closer to the 50 ohms of the HE6 than the 38 ohms of the HE500 spec. I wonder if they are now using the same base driver, just slightly tweak between each model.
