Bit late to the party with this, but here's my fix for the wheel on my original player which has been working fine for some months. I used a very thin sheet of foam crafting material (around 1mm thick) and got my wife to run it through her Grand Calibur die cutter with a couple of different circular dies to make a circular cut-out of material. I then applied it to a sheet of sticky micro-dots used for crafting to pick up adhesive, and stuck it to the QP1R's wheel.

I just hooked this player into Logitech's best 5.1 speakers with optical line out. It sounds amazing.
I occaisionaly run my big stereo with my QP1R. I f that is not some kind of acid test I don't know what is, sounds great.

Any scuttlebutt on when the next FW update release might show up and what improvements/fixes it might entail?
That's a good questyon. Still out in the wilderness, hoping for folder play-through.
Still hoping they will speed up the scrolling rate on long song titles. This is one of the most frustrating defects in the user interface. You can scroll through all albums or artists rapidly but song lists are painfully slow. Please please fix this in next firmware upgrade. Thanks

Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7GMs sound best with QP1R in mid gain setting. The Shure SE846s sound unbelievable in low gain.

I just lick my finger and wipe it on my jeans. Wheel works great until the next lick.

Does the gain setting affect the sound quality as well as the volume?
Yes. It seemed to make my over-the-ear headphones shrill in the higher frequency range.

I am not sure if it makes his big a difference with every earphone or headphone. With the Audio Technica it was dramatic. I was afraid to try any other gain setting with the Shures because they are so low in impedance.

I have only tried low gain with the SE846s due to their ultra low impedance.

I prefer my SE846's on medium gain.
