Review: Questyle Audio QP1R - With Multiple Headphone and IEM Pairings

Jan 5, 2016 at 11:30 PM Post #766 of 7,142
Just got a QP1R this past weekend. I've been comparing it to the ZX2 over the past several days, and sonically it's crazy how much more open and dynamic it is than the Sony (and this is with the ZX2 running the increased volume output trick, which gives it more clarity and range). I really did not expect that. I find it hard to choose between them though because with how great the Questyle is with its sound, the Sony is that good aesthetically (and the QP1R is that much worse, with floppy scroll wheel and inaccurate volume knob). I'm at a crossroads literally as I don't want to keep both. Battery life seems to be a good bit better than the claimed 10 hours... however I haven't taken detailed run times to this point. But it's been going solid a couple hours per day since picking it up on Saturday, and it's only showing down to 50%. Not bad.

Man o' man, the SOUND though! Jeez. My UM Mason universals are just singing (notoriously hard to drive)...

Something to share on battery indicator (or defective battery?).

Power on screen to shuffle song and it been playing for hours since early morning, it was read as 22% @ 1130am or so.
I didn't charge it straight away but away from my desk for around 30 mins, to my surprise the reading now read as 100%. So keep screen on to see if it drops again. The reading then keep going back and forth between 100 and 99 repeatedly. So left it there playing and went for lunch.
Back from lunch around 1250, it read as 50%. And finally gone flat around 112pm. Plugged in to charge, it read as 99%

On latest firmware 1.0.4. Also i am one of few reported having drastic battery drain after 30%. Got my set in early Oct.

That sounds like fun! Please let us know how it goes. :beerchug:

Gaghiel - try firmware version 1.0.2 and see if that may rectify the issue. PM me if you can't find the download link. If that doesn't fix the issue, Bruce has been very receptive to taking care of customers. Good luck.

Just finished reading this review, glad to see QP1R being used by Srajan Ebaen in his reviews.

Yeah the Sonorous X is a great sounding headphone. Worth the price? That's an individual choice. I personally think the Pandora Hope VI is a great sounding headphone for the price comparatively.

I agree. What Pandora Hope VI offers at $600 (Street price goes as low as $430 in Price Japan) is unrivaled in the sub $1000 category in terms of SQ and construction. Even a lot of headphones which cost well over $1000 sound pale in comparison to me in one v one tests.

Mine (1.0.4)  has a similar problem with the battery indicator. Probably just a firmware bug so I simply ignore that..

Similar i had 30% today when all set to enjoy dap then within 3 minutes it reduced to 9%. Teething problems i hope for such a refreshing peice of kit. I really want to try the eq as there are certain tracks i have that need tweaking like the vocalist being more prominent than the rest of it. Has anyone venturedninto this?
