2018 and still love this L1, along with L2 and X2. But due time, the earpads obviously need replacement, so i plan to buy brainwavz hybrid or is there any better candidate?

I don't know how those are replaced. I've never seen it done, though I've seen them after they were taken off (by Tyll) in videos.

They just pull off. You then tuck the extra part of the pads into the headphones. It takes a few minutes but it’s really not that bad.
Pulling off the pads is easy. The hard part is inserting and tidying the replacement pads to that tiny gap
