I recently get new IM03 from ebay for $250. Great deal!
Thanks, it was a sale of demo units, so it came without any accessories whatsoever. But condition still 10/10. Listened to them the last two hours and have a big smile on my face.
However, I had to take them out now as it starts being really uncomfortable.
Struggling a bit with eartips, have tried SpinFits and SpiralDots, both are not working perfectly. I have some more foam tips in some drawer, but still need to find them...
And the idea of having them reshelled into customs by AAW for 249 SGD is really growing on me..
Pulled the trigger on some IM03 today during a warehouse sale of demo units for 180SGD. Absolutely love them soundwise. Isolation is not so good and the fit becomes a bit uncomfy for me after one hour. So as I got them super cheap I will invest a part of the saved money into a reshell to make them Custom IM03. And it will still be cheaper than brandnew IM03...
I purchased the new e70 which is supposed to be an upgrade or new im03. They sound really good but fit is horrible even with spiral tips.
However, the fit is even worse than the im03 even with spiral tips. This is really irritating. It's like Audio-Technica isn't listening or they have one guy with really small ears testing the fit.
When did Audio Technica say the e70 is an upgrade to the IM03? Last I read, it's meant to fulfill a very different sound preference. If one likes the IM03, the e70 may not be at all to your liking.
Where did you read that?
From Audio Technica's website under Q&A:
"The IM series has been revitalized by the E-Series in ear monitors."
http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/headphones/5123d05fed0e7875/
Also the fit is still horrible.
can confirm. E70 and IM03 are totally different products. Both are very good, but serve different purposes. The E70 is much more neutral while the IM03 adds a bit more fun.
Which one is better for you depends on your preferences!
I was also told several times that the E-series IS NOT supposed to replace the IM-series.
THE ATH-IM01/02/03/04 are all multi-driver models intended for serious professional use, e.g. monitoring/mixing/mastering, while the ATH-E's (like the ATH-IM50/70 before them) are intended for audioaficionadi such as us Head-Fi'ers.
Honestly I would say it is the other way around. As the cable of the E-series is 1.60m indicates that these are more intended for professional use.
Comparing E70 (3BA drivers) to IM70 (2 dynamic drivers) imho makes not much sense. They are totally different. IM70 is very nice for its pricerange, with great base. E70 is quite neutral with great clarity and details.Similar with E50 compared to IM50.
To compare apples with apples you should A/B the IM03 with the E70 and the E40 with IM50 or 70. What they all (E and IM) have in common is the mediocre fit.
By the way they discontinued the im03 and im04 and replaced with the e70.
Seriously? Strange, as the tonality of IM03 and E70 are very different. Both are superb, but totally different signature.
Maybe give the JVC HA-FX850 a try. From what I understand, it has bass to die for, and very rich, warm sound.
No way does it compete with ckr9/10 in bass! jvc can get pretty bloated really quick.
