Now that I have my Brainwavz HM5 for a couple of months, I learned that I still prefer my Sennheiser HD580/HD600. The HM5 is not quite on the same fidelity-level. It's still my go-to $120 closed headphone recommendation though.

Agree.  Problem is that since I got my SE535 Ltd Ed, the HM5 has had very little head-time lately.  If I'm portable - it's the Shures.  If I'm at home - it's either the SR325i or HD600 (depending on the mood I'm in) - mostly the Senns.

As great as the HM5 are - and I rate them very highly for a closed can - I'm seriously considering selling mine.

For me it's a HD25-1 II or RE0 for portable use and a DT880/K701/HD580 for home use. The HM5 comes in handy when I don't want to bother my girlfriend when I'm listening to media at night. The HM5 isn't a definite upgrade over the HD25-1 II though so they haven't yet secured their position amidst my headphone family. They're excellent closed gaming cans though so I might keep 'em just for that purpose.

Nice open can selection

.  I miss my DT880's (sold them to get the HD600).

I know what you mean about the HM5 - it's good at just about everything - and surprisingly good for positional gaming as well.  Decisions, decisions ......

Dear everyone. I am really considering these for being my next pair of headphones. I bought an AKG K272HD 2 years ago, and I am looking for a replacer. :)
I have one question. Are there any colourful spare cables or is there anyway to make them for this Brainwavz HM5? I maybe look like a wannabe right now, but I love colours like green, red, and yellow. :D

EDIT: And what is the best place to buy it in The Netherlands? I have yet to find a place where I can let it ship from The Netherlands. Any good and cheap place to get it from, with worldwide shipping?

Has anyone had these as well as the Shure 840? I'm trying to decide between the two.....I'm looking for a flat/neutral sound signature close to the hd600/580, but closed and easier to drive. Anyone prefer these over the  shr-840.....or the reverse?

Can't offer a specific comparison since there were months between listening to the two, but I'm pretty sure I prefered the HM5.  Flatter frequency response, better soundstage and comfort.

Also concurring with this, but in my case it was relative to the HE-300. It seemed to me that open vs. closed had a lot to do with it.

I like the HM5 because of the value (price for performance) and I want closed headphones.  If I didn't/need want to isolate myself from the environment and the environment from my music I would be listening to one of my two channel speaker setups.  For me, headphones are all about isolation situations.  I came to the headphone world after years in the two channel and home theater audio world.
