Resonessence Labs Concero discussion/review thead

At that point in my development I was cable agnostic.

Many of us are at first

Some reviews mention that the port is galvanically isolated but I don't recall seeing this on their now defunct website or in the specs.
I think I do recall John Grandberg coming to the conclusion that it was not, but that it performed as if it were.

In-built galvanic isolation is very rare, but who knows... Is this company still around btw.?

FWIW - to my ears the Concero HD was a very good DDC in it's price class and certainly considering it's other functionality. In my system and to my ears. the battery powered AudioByte Hydra X+ was better in the DDC role (may say something about power isolation). Difference was not night and day and many may not even notice unless they have a very highly resolving system. Your mileage may vary but know that I tried several $500 - $1000 units and the Concero was a solid #2 in my system.

I wonder how would it stack against our own no longer manufactured DDC.

At the moment a Benchmark DAC1 USB mostly and has also transformed my trusty Audio-gd NFB11.32! An upgrade waits in the wings though...

As they say, you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention

Slightly off topic but as iFi has been in this thread and has just launched the Zen Stream look what turned up for sale on the UK eBay website, a Fluvius!!!

Resonessence Fluvius

I was curious about the sellers blurb indicating that products are still fully supported via Audio Concierge. When I contacted via email the seller advised "It’s fully supported by a team who can be contacted through Phil Wannell at Audio Concierge. He’s helped me with setting up the Fluvius and the Resonessence team recently updated the unit to run Roon 1.8." I emailed Phil who confirmed that he is providing support for the Fluvius but no other Resonessence products unfortunately.

I know when @project86 reviewed the Fluvius it didn't support Roon but looks like this one does so maybe there was a final update before Resonessence went bust?.

I am intrigued by the Fluvius but as I have a couple of ways to stream I'm not sure I can justify a 'legacy' product like this, inspite of it's heritage and even if aesthetically it matches my Veritas perfectly.

IFi needs to add either a coax or optical input to the Zen DAC and Zen DAC Signature for those of us who don't want to use USB only.

We're aware those would come in handy. If one day we'll make a bigger streamer, most likely we will include extra digital outputs

Amazing review.
If you wanted better instrument separation, more immersive soundstage, more air up top, what would be the the DAC to go for?
Do you know how the Concero HD compares with a W4S DAC-2 or a Hegel DAC?

I may be able to compare Concero HD to W4S DAC-1 soon. Provided the first arrives in functional condition – bought it "as is" from Yahoo Japan.

I got Concero HD now and wonder if updating firmware is possible at the moment and, if yes, should I do it or better not?

P. S. I am not sure which firmware is currently installed. Using it with Mac.
