Just wanted to give an update on the broken Invicta. So far Hans Looman does not responded to two Emails. So no help from there.

I tried to understand if the FPGA is programmable by using the internal socket seen below (picture from upper and lower side of the board). So far I was not able to understand how it connects to the FPGA pins needed to program it via a USB JTAG interface such as the AMD HW-USB-II-G. Its hard to understand the connections without having a blueprint or being able to remove the FPGA (which I am not able to). Maybe that socket isn't even implemented to do that. I is just a good guess - but why would they put it there? what other purpose could it serve?.

Another 4000$ wasted. Thanks Resonessence.

I will get the Cayin CS100 DAC to try in week or so...

Yuck, sorry to hear that. It is indeed very disappointing as far as how the whole thing was handled. A company that had always been superb with customer service and support, suddenly going dark with no communication to anyone (including dealers)? That's terrible.

Unfortunately the things which made their gear unique, particularly the Invicta platform, was the custom FPGA code - which also makes it far more difficult to repair as compared to a more standard DAC just using all off-the-shelf parts with no proprietary solutions involved.

I had hoped Hans would get back to you but apparently he lost interest or just became too busy with other things. If I come across any new/useful info I'll be sure to add it here but at this point I don't have very high hopes.

My Concero died yesterday. No indication why - doesn't light up and not recognized by windows. Mirus still working fine but it a dent to my confidence.

Does anyone here have access to the latest Resonessence USB driver (which I believe is the v4.67 version)? Recently picked up an Invicta and would like to download the driver but have no luck finding the latest copy for now.

This may help with Resonessence repairs. I came across this thread on Audiophilestyle. Someone recently got their Mirus repaired by this shop, Sigma Electronics Service in Alberta, Canada.

!! Another dead Herus! A while ago my Herus DSD DXD stopped working. Humming from one channel or distortion from both. That was not great, but I had a tiny bit of solace that my Herus+ DSD DXD was still working great, which was, well, great. And my Concero HP DSD DXD is also working and sounding great. Great.

But just yesterday my Herus+ DSD DXD went the way of my Herus DSD DXD. I was listening happily when my RPi 4B RoPieee Roon bridge hiccuped, powering the Herus+ off, then back on, and then noise, hum. !! I'd like to use stronger language and utter it very loudly.

Of all the gear I have, and have had, that's plugged into a USB port, the Herus has had a strange history of being unstable, particularly in having the RPi 4B RoPieee Roon bridges drop out/disappear as a connected device to the Roon server, frequently requiring a restart or two to clear up. I typically have one, or perhaps as many as a couple, of devices plugged into the RPi all the time. RoPieee is scheduled for 3 AM restart and automatic updates. No other gear has given any trouble.

I LOVE the Herus. Small, just plug it it, sounds great, looks nifty. !!

I've inquired to Sigma Electronics Services to see whether they might be able to fix them. How do you even get them apart??!! I'm guessing that the little rubber anti-slip pad underneath has to come off to expose a seam or gap to get the board out of the case. Just surmising...
