Thanks for the heads-up! I had no idea she'd released anything new. I'll definitely have to check this one out.

Some more suggestions:

Tanita Tikaram (you know)
Black Box Recorder (think Saint Etienne + some seriously disturbing lyrics)
Stina Nordenstam (weird, fragile)
Sia (Zero 7 singer)
Nicolette (Trip-hop)
Swan Lee (Cool Danish pop band)
The Gathering (gothic rock/heawy, quite cool)

If you like them, then check out Antimatter.

Without question..........Eleni Mandell

On of the most underrated female vocalists ever.

She has such a beautiful voice.

You may have to go to her website to order the cd's but well worth it.

She also tours quite a lot, so look up the tour dates to see if she'll be in your area anytime soon. Her live shows are spectacular. It's amazing to see a buch of kids in a punk bar quiet and staring at the stage.

I suggest her to anyone looking for a great female vocalist.

if you ask me, the female musicians that are quite worthy are:

- The Corrs (though not all female)
- Anita Baker
- Macy Gray

hmmm....come to think of it... there are too many... but Anita Baker is a great singer with powerful voice... should at least try to listen to her song...

And everyone else but Avril Lavigne....

If that was a request for christian female singer/song writer etc, then check out Iona. Especially the double live album Heaven's Bright Sun. I'm not into religion in any big way, but the music and vocals are superb.

Also a reccomendation for a site that specalises on female vocalists is www.musicaldiscoveries. Go there now and check some of the featured artists out. Amongst my current favourites are Mostly Autumn, though the albums split between male (very good) and female vocalists, and Karnataka who have just released a double live cd thats also worth checking out.

For those that like the Nightwish/After Forever sound, then also check out a newish band on the scene called Epica and there album "Phantom Agony". Very good, though it does have some male grunts. I don't normally like too much of those, but these are done as well as can be expected.

Oh and do your selves a favour and check out the wonderful Blackmores Night.

for a similar style to enya and loreena mckennitt you could try early albums of clannad - they're enya's sisters and brothers, i think she even features on one album.
