haha steer clear of infected mushroom etc, they mainly dabble in psy trance which is quite different.
if you like oceanlab have a listen to armin van burren and above and beyond. abb have a podcast of their weekly radio show which is called 'trance around the world' free for download. its the best way to get a taste of new and old trance as they also have tracklisting of all their shows so you can narrow down your favourite producers

ShuShuNiMaZou My Brute click that link if you're bored and create your own personalised char and challenge me. its a fantastic little game with a very simple playing style.

I think you should give a try to any kind of "trance" out there.
There are indeed HUGE differences between all the music styles inside of the Trance genre, which is now (imo) a broad and inacurate term.

So have a listen to commercial and vocal trance (Tiesto, van Buuren, Ayumi, etc) as you might like them, but just don't forget to listen to the more underground subgenres of trance.. one of them being Goa/Psytrance that a few ppl mentioned already.

Some recommendations:

Hallucinogen - Twisted (Psytrance)
Pleiadians - IFO (Melodic Psytrance)
Khetzal - Corolle (Soft Goatrance)
Filteria - Daze Of Our Lives (coming out in a few days, melodic psytrance)
Psykovsky - Debut (Dark Psytrance)
Kino Oko - Alphabetically Divided Highway (Progressive Psytrance)
Solar Fields - Movement (Psychedelic Ambient)

If you like any of these, just come talk to us in the Goa/Psytrance thread and we'll be able to give you some more names

Also, the last few Infected Mushroom albums have nothing to do with Psytrance, so don't expect to hear any pop or rap in this genre

Anyone have a concise guide to trance genres. I'm only just getting to this music (Infected M & Space Cat). I already like Shpongle & really want to hear Talpa. I'm confused as to the diff between, say, Goa & psytrance....? I'll wiki it, maybe, but if you t/heads could give me some brief one liners, that would be enlightening.

Old Infected would be Psytrance, Shpongle like Psy-chill if it had to have a genre, Talpa would be Psytrance as well with imo a very slight touch of Suomisundi (fun kind of psy) in his last album.

Goa imo is more on the melodic side, sometimes called "melodic psytrance".
Check out "Twisted" by Hallucinogen, "I.F.O." by Pleiadians, "Backfire" by Transwave, "Corolle" by Khetzal, as well as some Astral Projection and Total Eclipse.
There are tons of other brillant releases in this genre, but if you listen to those albums i think you should more or less get what Goa is and if you like it or not.
You can also check there to get more recommendations by year/genre: http://www.ektoplazm.com/projects/essential-selections/

Also do visit the psy/goa thread on this forum too if you want to talk about it!

Thanks Isao
I will certainly search out the Goa thread -sounds like a genre I would like a lot, if by melodic you mean 'uplifting', 'euphoric'....

I keep scanning Ebay for Talpa, but no luck so far.

There sure are a lot of euphoric melodies in Goa, though they don't have anything to do with the kind of melodies you can find in Euro trance (aside of some Man With No Name tracks maybe) - it's more oriental inspired by definition.

ATB - 9am? The same?

Thx for all the links. I sourced Talpa on Ebay, but from Australia!

Oriental euphoria - sounds good to me.

Is Sash considered trance (from a post I saw. Encore Une Fois is one of my all-time favourite dance tracks)?

Regards Infected Mushroom - only bought/heard Vicious D...good, liked, but not what I was expecting! Maybe earlier IM, as you say...

Finally, & sorry for all the Q's -what do you guys think of Eat Static? Not sure I'd call em trance, but I only have ltd knowledge as yet...I like them tho.
