Hello everyone, I am not really into trance and I dont listen to it often but I would like to get to know it a bit better. I once heard a song by hallucinogen called dimentia and I really liked it. I now have some stuff by oceanlab which i too like. I amnot into house or dance because most often it isnt really that melodic (at least not the stuff i hear on the radio) I like melodic stuff, hypnotic stuff, with a built-up. With good layering and effects, with vocals. I like binaural stuff too, which seems to be done in trance at times.
I did listen to some infected mushroom but most of it didnt seem to have vocals. Doesnt have to be long lyrics, samples can be enough too.
please, recommend me some nice stuff?
Greetings, Anouk,

I don't know if it's exactly what you are looking for but try pretty much any music by Vincent de moor. In particular Green Heaven. Shamu is pretty good to. (original mix) I find all his music melodic and it's the type of trance I like to listen to. In fact I've just ordered his greatest hits cd (double cd) from Japan. Been looking for this for a while now.

Hey!
smily_headphones1.gif

INFECTED MUSHROOM
L3000.gif
- Never Ever Land, B.P Empire, Unbalanced, Vicious Delicious, Sulliman, I wish, Converting Vegetarians, Becoming Insane, Bust a Move, Stretched, Ratio Schmatio, Return of the shadows, Ballerium, Disco Mushroom, Heavyweight, Messenger,Missed Symphony, Symphonatic... Some of their best compositions in no particular order
smily_headphones1.gif

To listen, dont be afraid to get bored and fast-forward WITHIN tracks- owning tribute to the genre they've put some repetitive parts in their pieces... in between some of the most creative and melodic bits in modern popular music!! So dont just skip to the next song if you dont like what you're hearing, but fast-forward a few seconds, then another few seconds... Each of their "songs" ALWAYS has some development, few contrasting (yet logical) parts...

In terms of unpredictable (in a good way) original melodies, original harmonies, musical composition IM is the best there currently is for me. They are not Chopin standard- too much repetition, not strong enough structure... But, very good they definitely are... They are classically trained Tel-Aviv Conservatory graduates after all, not some garage punks set loose in high tech music studio hehe

PS Looking forward to hearing them through my new W3s!!

PPS Just reread your original post and noticed you know IM already:\ Oh well, I still suggest you check out ALL of the songs I mentioned above

But also : Leftfield - Release the Pressure, Afro-Left (both are great!

, Swords (not quite as good, but ok) All have lyrics as well.

Paul Okenfold's Tranceport is a readily available trance album. Tiesto & Paul Van Dyke are other good options. For compilations, try some of the Gatecrasher multi-CD albums (last disc in each is always a trance / chill-out disc).

... thread of awful spammy responses.
Some of them were pretty on the money though.

Since you've checked out Hallucinogen...
right up their alley is Astral Projection (very similar)

Talpa and Shpongle are definitely good to check out. Down that path you also have Afrocelt Soundsystem (fusion of world beats and trance).
Infected mushroom is good, but is more goa than psytrance (except for the trance side of converting vegetarians - which is very good though still slightly goa).
Gonna drop some psytrance names...
1200 micrograms
Materia
Electric Universe
Electrypnose
Dimension 5
Eskimo
Hux Flux
Jaia
Man with No name
Psyside
Red Buddha
SUN Project
Aerospace
Analog ***** (if this gets censored - slang for female genitals)
Cosmosis

... in almost alphabetical order ^

nope

dead cities would be [loosely] called techno. herd killing, we have explosive & dead cities are techno with heavy run-DMC samples. antique toy is techno albeit slower, quagmire has a great shizophrenic jazziness to it, the rest is great acoustic, ambient & classical!

to the OP: have a look at LSG (oliver lieb), he's done some wcked albums (collected works & into deep being my favourites - though into deep has more ambient & breaks). you mentioned oceanlab & hallucinogen, right at opposite ends of the trance spectrum! but similar to oceanlab, above & beyond, smith & pledger, jon o'bir, armin van buuren, ferry corsten...
for psy-trance i would just google it, the more vocal stuff is usually the psy-ambient-dub as already mentioned, people like shpongle really. yeah, chuck a few of these genre names in the same search you'll get interesting results

. i'm not too deep on psytrance but i do like protoculture, system 7, commercial hippies & the like.

If you enjoy Oceanlab, then you HAVE to get some Above & Beyond. Pretty much anything from their label Anjunabeats or Anjunadeep(A blur of trance and house but is nice and melodic. Some good stuff)

A couple fav songs of mine would have to be:
Alex Bartlett Feat. Anthya - Touch The Sun (Duende Dub RMX)
Andain - You Once Told Me (Original Mix)
Lost Witness feat. Tiff Lacey - Home (Mike Shiver Remix)
Oceanlab -Satellite (Above & Beyond Mix)
Duderstadt & Kirsty hawkshaw - Beautitude (Duderstadt Uplifting Mash Up)
Blank & Jones - Where You Belong (feat. Bobo)
Michael Woods - Solex (Close To The Edge) (Dogzilla vs. Michael Woods Remix)

And you really cant go wrong with DJ Tiesto's compilations titled In Search of Sunrise.
He puts out one every once and a while. My personal favorite is ISOS 4: Latin America with 5:Ibiza rounding up second.
Check em out and fall into a trance.

Oh, and check out Above & Beyonds podcast "Trance Around the World" Its free and will open up new and amazing artists.
