To answer the thread title, nope, not the best $200 earphones. Even stated right there in the review. A couple of the reviewers(such as they were) would have chosen the C5 for best sound but not overall due to comfort. If these aren't better than the C5 for sound, they are not the best for $200. Many cheaper than $200 phones can beat the C5 in the SQ department.

I couldn't disagree more with the review's findings on the Etymotic HF5 and Sennheiser CX985.

Also, "less expensive in-ears ... lack low end?"

Or what about not considering the Vsonic GR07 because of breakage issues. Dismiss the DBA-02 cause of lackluster reviews? and yet wanted the B2. Of course you couldn't find the B2's for sale either. Also have to dismiss the HF5 cause it didn't have mic/controls.
 
Gotta love it when people try to fake it. You don't know earphones and a little bit of internet research only means you can do some name dropping but still don't know earphones.

I have and Joker has. He indicated that he thought they sounded alright, but not good enough for the money to review. My own impressions were similar: good, but definitely not the best.

I just got them.... the reviews on the web says that is pretty good but i a little weak on vocals... what frequency in the equalizer fixes that 3kHz?

That review is odd, if only because they state that a bunch of possible choices have lacklustre reviews, yet some of them, like the Sony XBA-3s, have mostly 4 and 5 star reviews! The review was months ago, so who knows what might have happened since then.

I feel that the board that reviewed the headphones didn't like a pair of headphones that was too bright (disqualifies the Etymotic et al, so they would not have liked the DBA or B2 either).  
 
But it also seems that they wanted a sound that was meatier (hence why the B&W C5 got big marks, as well as the Torque).  I feel the Torque was better than the C5 with the treble boosting filter.  I haven't heard the EP2 though, so no comparisons there.  The way the Torques were described kinda' back this claim as the "reference" filter the Torque come with aren't reference, the brights are closer to that.  They wanted a meaty sound, there is no doubt about that.  A lot of people like a meaty sound XD
 
I still find it funny how they stated that the HF5 didn't have a remote and mic, so they down voted it...  HF2, HF3 silly

I feel like half of them probably didn't get a good seal either. You should see what happens when I try to let my friends hear my IEMS. They have no idea how to put them in their ears. I show them, tell them it goes over their ear and then they like tie a knot around their ear and put the IEMS in backwards "oh okay they're in"   uhhhhh no they're not. lol
 
edit: Not to call them incompetent or anything either. It's an inherent problem with IEMS. Just finding a good seal for one pair can be difficult or even impossible for some with stock tips. Unfortunately it's one of the problems which makes it difficult for multiple people to get a proper listen to one pair of IEMS in a short time frame, let alone 8.

I would say the fit is pretty good.... i'll just need to equalize mid frequencies when needed i don't feel it missing though... even when the bass is so awesome in this one

Just got a pair in the mail tonight (the EP1, no mic but the same otherwise), don't remember what got me to order (been on a buying spree thanks to the Discovery Thread and the Deals Thread), not burned in, have them plugged into Fiio X3-line out into XLO National...listening to Aimee Mann, my go to for evaluating stuff (know her stuff like the back of my hand). There is no issue with vocals/midrange, clear as can be, wide soundstage, my preliminary assessment is, these are nice!!!
Just sayin'...
