Dune 2 - 8/10

Feels a bit wrong to give this "only" an 8. The film is near perfection, but at times the movie drags a bit (never boring) and is not always all that interesting.
I'm not really into the religious and super natural? elements of this movie.
During the slow parts there really wasn't much in it that gave me much to think about.
The action sequences are by far the best parts of the movie.
Maybe it will get better with repeat viewings. I just can't see myself watching this again anytime soon.
It's possible I would like it more if I had read the book.

Visually it's perfect. The whole movie looks and sounds amazing. Acting and writing seems perfect too.
I should also note that I usually need at least one character I like or can relate to in some way.
I can't think of a single memorable character in this series. They're all pretty bland.

The first one was an easy 10/10 for me.
I will be watching the third one for sure and hopefully in Imax.
It's supposed to be released in 2026.

BTW I should point out that Denis Villeneuve (director of this) is one of my favorite directors.
I dislike the original blade runner, but saw his sequel 5 times in the theater!
"Arrival" might be my favorite of his. I actually disliked that on my first viewing.
I missed dialogue that was crucial to understanding the story and why the aliens were there.
It was like a completely different movie on my second viewing at home.

Another great Sci-fi series I can suggest is "The Foundation" on Apple TV. I need to see Season 2 ASAP.
Hopefully both have made it to blu-ray by now. Season 1 was one of the best TV shows I had seen in years.
That and "Station Eleven" are in my all time top 10 easily.

I'm not big on tv shows in the modern era, but season 3 of White Lotus is something I don't think I'll soon forget.
It really made me feel uneasy at times and found out that it has given a lot of people a fair bit o' anxiety while watching, which as I can respect. Season 1 was watchable, couldn't get into 2. The subject matter is probably super relatable to a bunch of wealthy audiophiles, which I'm neither, particularly the former. Anyways, it's a heavy watch, but very good. I can't really compare it to anything stylistically besides maybe Weeds, but much more taboo. Walton Goggins 4 life.

The Diamond Heist - 8/10

Really good and entertaining new documentary on Netflix. It's 3 short episodes.
If you normally don't like documentaries, give this one a try.
It's all based on a true story.
Be sure to not ready into this one too much before watching it.
It's probably better not knowing much about it and what happens.

Starship Troopers - 6/10

Currently on Prime, but 8 days left.

I wonder how many people watch this and don't realize it's basically making fun of some Americans views.

It takes place in a future where a country has turned fascist (according to the movie description).

If it wasn't for being sort of a parody and adding in some comedy, I might have turned this one off.

The humor in it is very subtle and it actually should have been funnier than it was.

I suspect that younger people wouldn't get all the references, especially if they don't know much about WWII history and fascism.

For me, it took the old "gung-ho" level of very old patriotic WWII era movies to the extreme.

Stuff like the old John Wayne movies like "The Fighting Seabees" etc.

This movie itself isn't very entertaining. By the end I did mostly feel like I wasted my night on this.

The acting is really sort of below average. There are some well known actors in it who later became sort of famous.

The CGI in the movie reminded me of Playstation 2 level graphics. They're bad mostly, but the movie was made in 1997!

The movie is also very very gory. I didn't take any of the battle scenes very seriously though.

I was watching this, and couldn't help but chuckle that this is how stereotypical Asian drama is like (I think Japanese and korean mostly). lol.

Shakes head at the recently Yakuza show. They need to do the story of Ichiban Kasuga. IMO, he's like Hanamichi Sakuragi from slam dunk.

Hanamichi Sakuragi

I wonder if they did this karaoke scene? Very manly Japanese song. They need to give this kinda flavoring to it.

This was entertinging. Rodman was different, and he wasn't the typical offensive super star you expected in the 90's, he showed his skills in different ways that wasn't typically expected.

Hanamichi Sakuragi from Slam Dunk is based on Rodman, although Rodman after games was crazy wild man from the rumors. Having the main character as Roman-like is quite unexpected. Jordan was all the rage at the time, and the ideal image of a ball player. This makes the story even more interesting, and add more characterizations. Perhaps that as the reason for it and Rodman does seem to represent something that a athlete's realistic growth can express over time. More relatable than genius like Jordan, although he keeps calling himself "genius" which is the joke. lol. The character isn't very glamorous like Jordan. lol Which I think it a good take, and more realistic representation.

He even gets the Rodman haircut. lol

The Sum of All Fears - 8/10

Starring Ben Affleck (as Jack Ryan) and Morgan Freeman.

OK, maybe a bit too high of a score, but I liked this one. It's based on a Tom Clancy novel.
In it, a rogue group or "secret society" (maybe) tries to incite a war between the USA and Russia through a "false flag attack".
Not sure how on earth this is possible, but some guy ends up buying a a misplaced nuke that crash landed in a middle eastern desert (!).
Dang, I hate when that happens! This evil group uses it on an American city and tries to pin it on Russia to start a war.
The people who did this were not a terrorist group, but a bunch of ultra rich men who supposedly just wanted to profit off the war or something.
I haven't read the book, so that's my guess. It was probably explained in the movie, but maybe I missed that part.

I really do think there are probably still groups out there like this. Not working for any government, but are so evil they would kill thousands of people just to make billions of dollars in profit. These people are super powerful and hiding in plain sight and have gotten good at hiding their crimes.
Just like those monsters who enabled and covered up Epstein's evil. I never believed he was working alone. He was a blackmailer after all. I don't think many Americans even know that. It's rarely mentioned in the media. I myself believe Epstein was paid from someone else to do all this evil stuff. The same types in this movie.
There are more references to something similar in the latest Jack Ryan season (which is really great!). That's kind of why I mentioned all this.
If you want to know how evil some men can get, just watch some documentaries about Epstein on Youtube. The best one is in 3 parts and over 3 hours long.
The Netflix one is missing a ton of important information.
I hope someday everyone who participated in his activities is arrested and gets life. Nobody should be immune from it.

Jack Ryan (Season 4) - 9/10

This was the best season IMO. Why does it have to end now? It shouldn't.
They should bring back the same cast for a Season 5!
Jon Krasinki, Michael Kelly and Michael Pena for the main group made such a great team.
The story is also pretty good and it was entertaining enough to watch the last 5 episodes in two days.
Only negative is a few average scenes with the CIA director and some (corrupted) foreign lobbyist.
This is more of a drama, but there's a lot of really well made action sequences too.
Some of them reminded of the scenes out of the Uncharted game series.
There are some stealth scenes too, which is very under used in TV shows like this.
The TV series doesn't feel like a video game though. I just saw some similarities.
BTW Season 3 was the worst by far. I'm glad it recovered.

PS I just read they are making a new Jack Ryan movie. Krasinki will probably return and I read they are trying to get Michael Kelly back from Season 4.
Hopefully Michael Pena too, if that's possible.

Havoc 2025 Netflix

Cool camera angels/ view especially on chase scenes and fights. Real jarring white knuckle feelings for another Tom hardy tuff as nails gangsta/wwe/secret service prodigy on steroids. Yup puff away to an interesting and totally frivolous gun Kung fu wick like flick. So what 4 out of 5, it’s ridiculously rubberneckable flick that will fade into oblivion.
