The Ex: 6.5/10. Cruel, awkward but also funny comedy starring Zach Braff.

"American Gangster" [9.3/10]: Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Ruby Dee, and an impressive supporting cast give incredible performances. A notable achievement for Ridley Scott to add to his long list of notable achievements. "American Gangster" is very interesting even though at about 176 minutes it runs a bit long. The film was not as violent as I expected and the ending was not what I expected. These days that makes for a good film as far as I'm concerned.

Untraceable: 6.5/10. Decent thriller with an interesting premise: a killer streams a murder live on the internet; the more people log in to view, the faster the victim dies. The plot isn't very strong though and the ending is quite abrupt. Worth a casual watch.

Lost in Translation - 5 Jalapenos

Excellently shot. Great pacing. Love the setting. Really struck a chord in me emotionally. Scarlett Johansson is the most beautiful thing Ive ever seen in this movie.

Heh, the jalapeno scale. I like that one. What Bob (Murray) whispered to Charlotte (Johannson) has been revealed via the magic of sound editing and YouTube. FYI for those that missed it and are curious.

Really? I was prepared to skip this movie, seeing as how I can't stand Kelly Chen's (lack of) acting ability.

Mushishi 6/10

I haven't seen the anime or read the manga, but I like a little quirkiness in my movies. Interesting idea that just didn't get enough development in the movie. I liked Ginko/Yoki, but I just wished they would have developed him more. It also didn't work that the movie felt too episodic to hold a continuing stotyline.

St. Trinian's: 6.5/10. First half hour is overdone and turns you a bit off, but keep watching, it redeems itself and is eventually quite funny. I can't figure out why they put Mischa Barton in a cameo as a British schoolgirl though...

Lars and the real girl - 7/10

Ryan Gosling is killing it! In the good way. Bianca is not bad either

No Country for Old Men...10/10. One for my "lifetime favorites" list.

Had been looking forward to the big screen release and caught it the first day. Saw it for the second time last night on DVD, just to savor the subtle nuances.

Artfully engaging performances from the major players, with elements of subtle humor that is a Coen brothers trademark....and only the Coens could populate the screen with the West-Texas-authentic faces that fill many of the roles that normally would fall to the typical Hollywood character actor pool. The bros are still on top of their game.

...and plus one for the kudos for Lost in Translation, BTW. Been a while, but it's another favorite: quirky, engaging look at life on the wing.

Inside Man: 8/10. Very cleverly executed plot, great photography. Denzel, Jodie, Clive, Willem, what more do you need?
