flinkenick's 17 Flagship IEM Shootout Thread (and general high-end portable audio discussion)

If you can manage to find them in the UK, Unique Melody's mid-tier models also specialise in bright-and-smooth signatures. Their flagship Maestro/Legacy is definitely the most natural of the bunch, while IEMs like the Merlin and the Miracle are more fun, exciting and impactful. Have fun! :p
I have been looking around to see if I can find UM here in the UK, but it does not look like it will be possible. My only option is to try and force fit Nic's Maestro V2 and after all the issues I had with my own, perfectly fitting, CIEMs I am not sure I want to risk that. So my best option is to demo the UE18+ Pro and then compare notes with Nic's reviews of the Maestro V2 and UE18+ Pro.
You know that in this hobby (and any other wallet-draining-ones) there's a "price-to-be-disclosed-to-wife" version, which is always lower than the MRSP?
Absolutely! And the worst thing is that my wife knows me all too well after several hobbies like that. :D Plus, we are looking to move to a different country soon for the second time in three years, and moving countries is darn expensive.

@Wyville if you have the funds to get Katana , you could also go for a NT6+whiplash hybrid cable instead or just check the other TOTL reference-sounding ciems around

Katana was not even a top-10 in nic's shootout so yeah not really good news there

also remember that noble dropped its warranty transfer , this kills the resell procedure quite a lot so if you did not like it and want to sell it not being able to have it reshelled by noble would kill quite a lot of the potential buyers

last but not least , where is the puppy gif of the day ?

I'll send you my UM Miracle with a tub of KY Jelly; more things for your wife to get suspicious about :D

Good to see the old classic still has some fuel left in its tank! Love the cable choice by the way

Thanks, that means a lot. I wasn't quite sure but I remember someone in Professor Nic's class mentioning something about the 2-wire being fine for neutral so changed up to 2-wire last minute. There is no precedence so had to go with the gut.

Me, want, cable..

I initially purchased an 8-wire PW No. 5 in the daytime, but changed my mind because it's too thick and a little flashy for portable.

Called at night to change order. If I waited, it would of been too late because things are efficient in HK.

It's a one-day turnaround here with custom order PW Audio cables.

I believe the NT6 is even harder to get hold of than the Maestro V2 not? I will also only demo the Katana if Gisele happens to have it with her, so don't worry, I am not going Noble just yet. I am going primarily because of the UE18+ Pro and Harmony 8.2, and instead of going to her clinic I am meeting her at Indulgence so I can sample whatever else she has with her. She usually has the Noble line with her, as well as Custom Art (FIBAE will be there as well, I think) and Ultimate Ears.

So sorry, I have not been feeling very well the past few days and have lost some of my usual energy...

I'm interested in Demo'ing the Katana and the Hugo 2, anybody know way to do that besides meets? I'm in the US. Also, VE8(in Germany, correct?).
Vision Ears is indeed Germany, Cologne to be precise, but you can always contact them and they will try to help out. I contacted them last week and they are really nice and helpful. They have no dealer in the UK, but are still looking into what they can do so I can listen to their demo units (VE5 in my case). Great guys!

I believe that was me :) Speaking of the 2-wire 1960s, a friend of mine just picked up my 1960s and my AK70-Kai from Music Sanctuary this afternoon. Expect impressions soon

You can check out Noble's US dealers here: https://nobleaudio.com/en/about/dealers/

Chord's US dealers here: https://chordelectronics.co.uk/locate-dealer/

VE8 (hailing from Cologne, Germany) have a dealer at MusicTeck, New Jersey.

Oh, it should be a great day! Oscar will be there with HiFi Headphones and all the Effect Audio cables (save perhaps for Horus) and Final, so I can "Final"-ly (pardon the pun) try out the Piano Forte I have been longing to try. I saw that even Kumitate Lab will have a presence, so that might be interesting. And if I don't get too tired I will try out some headphones too (eg. Nightowl, Aeon).

The Aeon is fantastic! :D

I've been told that the AK70-Mojo and Aeon pair exceptionally well. Something to think about. ...I mean, it's cheaper than the UE18+ Pro, so my wife should be happy. :p

Yep, that's exactly how I auditioned it. Speaking of the AK70, check out the front page!

Dual DAC, improved amp stage... and that black, sexy, BODY! You know, uhh... I really think I should get one... you know, for comparison's sake... so if someone asks how the AK70-Kai compares to the stock, I'll know what to say... yeah, that's it... that's why I'm buying it... *slowly pulls out Debit card*

AK70-Kai versus AK70-MK2. That'd be an amazing battle. I know right, that black body looks lovely! Would love to grab one someday.

Edit: Good thing that your friend finally picked your items Deezel. Hope you'll like your new toys, hehe. :D Meanwhile, I'll probably get the new black AK70 after my DP-X1 retires. I like my DP-X1. :)

You are in luck, RMAF/CAMJAM is in a couple weeks in Colorado where you can hear both and more which will do serious damage to your pocket book between flight, hotel, and unintended purchases. :smiling_imp:
