Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

Was thinking of how to store the SR1a when not used at my desk. The main issue is that the bottom of the ear cups are touching each other. I 3d printed this very simple construction and it works perfectly for me:

Maybe the pads might get worn out faster if they are compressed all of the time?

I took an old broken folding ruler in plastic and cut it to proper length with two notches. It was just meant to be a template for a version in wood, but I never got around to make it. It's not the most elegant solution, but it works great :)

That's a good idea. Thanks for the hints regarding the issues with my solution. I will try some other things as well. If I find a better solution, I will share it and the 3d print files.

Thank you very much for your help yyzSB and KaiSc.
I plan on using the SR1 for both music and film (film being a good chunk of the reason why I'm looking at the SR1 more than the CA-1) and the dynamic range of the latter with many blu-rays and uhd's can be a problem with loud sounds, so as long as it's no more of an issue of sound leakage than leaving open back headphones off your head it seems a-ok.
I'm not really in an area where going to audio shows to try things out is all that feasible (both because the nearest show would be roughly 60 miles away at best and because I hate driving in the congested lower northeastern U.S.) so I have to rely on the experience of others.

Great review of the CA-1A by Sajid Amit

Comparing the CA-1a and Sr1a using the VM-1a vs other headphones would be real interesting.

I also think the SR1a and CA-1a are very similar on the VM-1a. The SR1a has a bigger sound stage and the CA-1a hits harder but other than those 2 issues they sound very similar on the VM-1a.

I think the review is excellent although I think the cm is every bit as detailed as my susvara...but then again I love the sr1a and he doesnt...great headphones both

Whoever is interested in the spacer, here is my version, attached as STL.

This sounds absolutely incredible on the SR1a, the texture in the voice gets across so clear:

For those using the TI-1a/b with a headphone amp, what are you using and how do you like it? Curious about impressions with the SR and CR. I’m using the Jot R right now and am curious about trying some other things.

I've got the TI-1B, SR1B and CA1A here at the moment.
The TI1B works great with both headphones, though of course doesn't include the open baffle compensation for the SR1B so you need to do that via EQ or using the XLR/RCA inline things.
The main thing with the TI1B is that you're still gonna need a LOT of power. These are the hardest headphones to drive I have, and with the CA1A if listening very loud then it can go to a near constant 3-5W pull in some cases.

A couple friends of mine have said they actually got about 6dB more volume by swapping the cable to a custom and lower impedance one, which actually given the impedance of the headphone does make sense. This is a situation where cables absolutely will make a difference. I've not tried this though.

But it works and sounds great.
16 and 32 Ohm inputs sound almost identical. With the 16 ohm perhaps being juuuust a little more dynamic/punchy but its somewhat amp dependent. Some seemed to struggle with 16 ohm, some were better with 32 ohm

Sorry, I meant what amps are people driving the TI with, and how do they like the amp in combo with the SR or CA?

I'm driving my SR1a through the TI-1a with my CFA3 (32 ohm). Works incredibly well, and the CFA has so much power I'm rarely past 8 o'clock (admittedly, I don't listen very loud). I'm still evaluating, but the TI-1a driven this way seems a bit more dynamic than direct drive from the HSA-1b, but the quieter passages also seem more recessed than they are with the HSA-1b.

Ah!
I'm using the Ferrum OOR currently and it's working a treat (sounds best on 16 Ohm input).
AHB2 was beautiful. 23R doesn't seem to be a good pairing particularly with SR1B.
I gave the CA1A a go on the Zahl HM1 at canjam london (thanks Danny for letting me borrow them!) and that was the best I'd heard them
