qls mub 1

my primary use is for bluetooth to my rex5 and others which benefit from higher quality codecs.
i use an iphone 16 pro max and wondering if this would allow me to connect to bluetooth headphones easily using the iphone as the music library. is there a way to make it magsafe compatible?
i’d be most grateful for any comments on this use case.

wait, you want to use this? iphone --> bt --> mub1 --> bt --> headphones or iphone --> usb --> mub1 --> bt --> headphones?

in either case you will send a digital signal via bt to the dac/amp of your bt headphones which will do the analog conversion and thus be responsible for the sound. Sure, you might get better bt protocol than from the iphone, but you wont get any profit out of the 4 dacs and the amp in the mub1. I dont even know if the mub1 can be used as a transmitter. the usecase of a bt dac amp usually is to connect wired headphones to it and feed it via bt from your phone, not the other way around.

if that is what you want to do, get a Fiio BT11 or maybe a creative W6, put them into your iphone and let them do what you wanted to do with the mub1. much smaller, much cheaper and you will reach all your goals and finally get the exact same sound as if you would use the mub1 or any other device.
my personal advice is tho to finally get rid of the iphone if seriously considering to use your phone somewhere in your audio chain using bt or stay in the apple microcosm, specially if not too interested in how things like digital to analog signal pathways work.

I love my MUB1. I contacted QLS to see what they are working on and received good news.

QLS is currently working on the MUB5, which will be a larger more expensive dac/amp with R2R dac, not coming out for ages though. Will be an instant buy from me.

After experiencing how good the LDAC transmission is while using a phone as source I am finding it hard to go back to DAP's.

Interesting because i like R2R sound. MUB1 has great dynamics and would have same dynamics with R2R sounds

It will be released only if it is possible to implement R2R better than ak4499, otherwise there will only be a version on ak4499

That's why I don't hesitate to buy anything QLS, the engineer is a perfectionist and won't settle for good enough, like the average R2R in Hiby RS2, if QLS release a R2R product it will sound 3x it's price, or they won't release it at all.

hi,
thank your for your message.
i have had tremendous trouble using tidal offline on an a306 and m300

i find using tidal offline to be silky smooth on a iphone 16. i use my dx320 with the a12t’s and it’s great with imaging and is very resolving.

i use my rex5 as the primary bluetooth with the apollo , h100 and pi8 too. i tired the bt11 but its very finicky. the goal is to use tidal with bluetooth pfffering either ldac or aptx or both.
so i am i am interested in whether i can use it as: iphone 16 > mub1 (over usb) -> rex5 over bluetooth (ldac/aptX)

secondarily to the a12t’s over a wired connection. i have the dc elite but want something better / more versatile (with bluetooth) be portable too. basing able to eq would be a plus specially over bluetooth specially own the h100.

conclusively having bluetooth transmission is key for my desired use case.

i see, thank you for clarifying! as i dont own the mub1, i sadly cant help, as i dont know if it cant be used as a transmitter. i am sure an owner will
As far as I can tell, MUB1 can only operate as a Bluetooth receiver, not transmitter. I have tried connecting my phone to MUB1 via USB, which works fine, but enabling Bluetooth merely switches the input from USB to BT.

thank you for confirming;
wish it were the opposite but alas.
is it difficult i wonder or expemsive to add this one as almost all dap/amp dongles don’t habe this option while there are so many tws which have ldac/aptX and there are so many iphone users which make for a great source device.

sorry, for beeing late! as far as i know many of the modern daps have the feature you are looking for. they are able to transmit and recieve high quality bt. fiio, ibasso, shanling and probably hiby are all able to do this. from my experiences with shanlings low tier daps it comes with some quirks tho. i would look into either of the other brands for specially this feature alone
