QDC - Discussion and Impressions Thread

Reading through all the postings in this threads lately I was amazed by how much attention was given to the TOTL models. From the 8 series to Gemini, then the VX. Whenever there is a posting or a question regarding the mid or the entry level models. It was either no response, or it got shoveled away quickly. People got impatient when someone wants to discuss anything but the premium products.

This reminds me of an interesting question posted on another forum (not head-fi) a couple of years ago: "What's the difference between an audiophile and an audio enthusiast?" There were many great answers posted by the forum members. However, this one below is the most intriguing and the most interesting answer.
"The audiophiles use music to listen to their equipment.
The audio enthusiasts use equipment to listen to the music."

Although I built my first DIY audio system back in 1977 (the amplifier was built from the components level), I have never wanted to be called an audiophile. I am just an enthusiast. I found that head-fi is a great place for the audiophiles. It's not just in this thread, but in many other threads as well (the Fearless thread is another example). The enthusiasts are the minority in this society. It has been an interesting journey and I have gained a lot of knowledge regarding the qdc products thanks to many contributors. But I think it's time for me to get off this hype train.
Unsubscribed.

You make good points, but I think in general people just like to talk about standout products more than anything, and in QDC's case, their standout products are their 8-driver models and the VX. I wouldn't particularly consider this any form of elitism should the latter few gain more traction in discussion, that's just how things are.

Hopefully you've noticed that I've been happy to discuss anything QDC in this thread, but the reality of it is the rest of the QDC lineup, while good sounding, isn't all that much to talk about given they don't particulaly excel, especially given their relatively expensive price points. The 8-driver models and the VX can be considered some of THE BEST in ears in the world, and that's a talking point in itself.

With that being said, best wishes to you on your audio journey. Happy listening.

When they eventually release a flagship hybrid I'm sure that will be the talk of the thread.

I think that goes without saying because it'll be a new flagship? Which would naturally generate interest and discussion? I really don't understand the argument here.

I agree. The VX is QDC’s best sounding model and one of the best IEM’s around. I have written about it before and purchased it after many comparisons. The rest of the QDC line is a bit overpriced for what you get. And this is from one of my dealers. I think that is why you mostly hear about the VX and maybe the 8-driver models.
I would love to see someone make an inexpensive IEM that is better than all the rest though. I tried a number of them at Canjam and you really here the difference as compared to the best (which are unfortunately more expensive) right away. I do like the Andromeda allot, but that is not exactly inexpensive. I would love to hear one about 250.00 that is better than everything else. If you find one, let me know.

Exactly. If QDC made an IEM which sat in the middle of their lineup but sounded as good or even better than the VX, I'm sure that's all you'd hear me talking about. Heck if they're not their literal top of the line. But that's not the case, so the VX/8-driver models getting more traction in discussions is more than expected.

VX bass = Solaris bass, but Andro is bassier than VX? Really?

No. FR chart doesn't always tell the whole story, or represent what is actually heard in the real world.

I've owned all 3, I'm actually impressed with how close the VX bass comes to the Solaris (given BA vs. DD). But the bass on the Andro's doesn't come anywhere near the other 2, in terms of quality or quantity.

Andromeda's bass response greatly (GREATLY) varies depending on source. I find the Andromeda bass to be overbearing relative to the rest of the frequency response when using a low impedance source -- and this is due to the andromeda lacking upper-mids and lower treble response. I find it's darker and bassier in that regard. I think the bass quantity is probably on par but it's the relative response vs the rest of the sound.
