Precog's IEM Reviews & Impressions

Hey Precog, any chance you will “update” and sort your rankings list so the recent IEMs tested will be properly put in the rankings?

Thanks.

Edit: Also good Truthears write up. Moondrop and Truthears heavily index on similar tuned IEMs. You’ve been quite the advocate every since the Moondrop Chu video review and in a Headphones.com group call video on your thoughts about FR/$. The popular market seems too safe and the cheap special tunings are lacking in other categories. Where as high end IEMs have wow factors, but diminishing returns hits fairly quickly. I’m glad Elysian, 7th Acoustics, Symphonium and etc are in the market. It helps livens things up. There just needs to be that middle ground as the market keeps flooding with old and new ideas.

When I got an update earlier in the process, they sent a picture that included three sets of the Supernova. I'm assuming that was yours, Precog's, and mine. And it seems we're all in California so they probably shipped together.
Now waiting for mine, thanks to all the more recent attention, positive posts, and Precog's original rave review. Interested to hear how you feel about them now after 6 months, and where you would place them against others in the general price range.

So I actually sold mine. But that's not really a testament to its quality as an IEM. I've just been culling my collection.

In its price range, I'd pretty much always pick the Supernova. I'll put in a simple way. When I want big bass, I go for the Z1R. When I want a strong treble presence, I go for the Gaea. When I wanted strong vocals, I went for the Diva (also sold this one). When I'm just looking for a non-specialist, I would gravitate towards the U12t, Supernova, or IER-M9. I think I generally find the Supernova to be a more enjoyable IEM than the M9 and is only maybe a half step behind the U12t. The u12t edges it out in resolution and dynamics/punch, but the Supernova is so damn smooth.

The only con for the Supernova is that it isn't as comfortable as the U12t and M9. It's not uncomfortable, just not as comfortable for me.

When you say supernova is half level under U12t, where roughly the position of M9? is it below supernova or same level?

I became the owner of a supernova and I can honestly say that for me this is a great option for daily listening.
Yes, the supernova does not have a strong bass, high frequencies need more energy and it is the most detailed, but the tonality and mids won me over.
For me, the supernova landing is comfortable, I have no problem with long listening.

ahh all these Supernova talks make me wanna cop a pair. any other comparison anyone can chip in?
Supernova is a great choice for daily listening and long listening session.
It isn't as detail as something like M9, viento, or u4s. So it isn't going to make you tired listening to it for long session.
It is very smooth, very balance but still have a great dynamic overall.

Beautiful set. I love all the color variations I have seen, and their beauty is another attraction that doesn't get mentioned as much, albeit much less important than the sound. The one I have on order is mostly green with some yellow in it.

Hey everyone! I hung out with Mark yesterday and decided to make a video out of it. Got some impressions on the Symphonium Helios SE, DUNU SA6 MKII and a few other IEMs in there if you're curious. Also brought home the Ucotech RE2 at the last moment. It didn't get to make the video, and I haven't listened to it yet, but I've heard a lot of good things about it from my circles so my interest is piqued. Look forward to those impressions coming soon!

hey precog,
was wondering your thoughts on the u4s vs u12t. i did hear that you sold your u12t’s to keep the u4s. I’ll be paying used prices so around $900 and $1300 respectively. Thanks!
Also interested vs the Trio !

U12T is a no brainer. U4S just better bass texture and more nature sounding on lower frequency. The thing is the bass texture and timbre from U12t is a most nature sounding I ever get from an all BA set, if not SA6.

I agree the u12t bass is among the best BA bass, together with IER M7 / M9 bass.

They aren't using traditional BA, they are using open BA with big hole on BA body, 64audio made their own unique BA, so does Sony.
