no, you can do the same with digital, it's just you choose not to. digital makes some people lazy, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Is it because the medium offers more opportunity for artistic expression, or is it the geeky aspect of the vintage gear, having a dark room, the chemicals, etc? Or may be just another avenue to explore for already accomplished photographers?

A total amateur like me just thinks of all the bother, but I do realise that having no way to instantly see your shot would make for more careful (and hence better) picture taking!

I seem to be going backwards in terms of technology. I am having a blast with my recently finished vinyl and film rigs.

Pentax ME Super and 50mm f 2.0 lens. I believe I shot these wide open. I love the bokeh of fast lenses, so I am currently looking for a 1.4. These are from my first roll ever so be gentle.

More of the Tri-X 400 that expired 27 years ago (developed in diafine)
I found you have to be really gentle on agitation with these long expired films.

I haven't posted in five eons, but believe me, I've been keeping track of this thread every now and then.

A few contributions:

First and last taken with a D300, middle with my Blackberry. All heavily post-processed.
