Yea if you can wait, 1-2 years after a camera is out is when the price crashes. The X100 really took a nosedive when the X100s arrived but the s still holds its value pretty well even until now! Skip the GX7 and go with the Fuji X100 series (yes its double the price) or you can pick up a used XE-2 for a good bargain now?

I'm also interested in adding something like Fuji X100S to my set. Canon 6D with battery grip and 24-105mm lens is too big to drag around always, so I often leave the camera home and wish I had something more portable.

Nice clear shots, what ISO did you have set?

Hey, thanks for asking!

The first photo is:
ISO 1600
1/30 sec shutter
F/2.8  (not f/1.8, sorry!)

The second one is:
ISO 1600
1/40 sec.
F/3.2

Both with a Nikon AF-S DX 35 mm f/1.8 G lens on a Nikon D90, format: RAW.
Location is Sacre Coeur Cathedral, Paris, France.

Thanks for that :) I'm learning a lot from peoples settings.

Thanks V!

Actually, we're going in the same direction lol. This camera is actually a fixed lens prime compact, but with incredible power. It's not much bigger than the G7x, but it's heavier.

I'm mainly looking at the X100 for the EVF and high ISO capabilities. The image quality isn't nearly as good as my current, but I was just telling James that the EVF and body design are to my wallet what the Siren songs were to Greek sailors.

Yea, but that ~ extra inch length and half an inch height and depth really hurts pocketability, (not to mention 50% heavier) which is the main reason I want something like the RX100iii or the G7x. And I'd like to have that bit of all around use with the zoom if I'm using it as an all around, with 70-100mm (35mm equivalent) for portraits and the wider end of the range for whatever else I need.

Yea I could pull cropped portraits off of 16MP at 35mm FOV but the it wouldn't be ideal.

The RX100iii:
•EVF for sunny days
•screen also tilts downward for above head shots
•Sexier, arguably
•Better movies (which I would actually use)
•I like the JPEG processing more than canons
•longer battery life and ability to charge using portable cellphone charger.

G7x:
•Extra telephoto range
•faster or equal at all focal lengths
•Touchscreen for manual focus point change, especially good for movies
•faster startup and focus times

No phase detect autofocus on either :frowning2:

Either will obviously be a step down technically in most aspects from the D3, but I would always have it.

BUT
In case this is cheap enough.
B&H currently has the all black X100s for $849 which sounds like a hell of a deal for a brand new one from an absolutely reputable dealer. With free expedited shipping and for you, probably no tax. Not sure how long it will last.

Here's a few shots I've managed to squeeze out of the ol'Nikon and/or Sony....

Really nice photos. Like the username too

Thx @Dior for the subject.

Kind of confused how you got this shot? Double exposure from a lighted ad and a street?

Really like it though.

Sony vs canon

Seems like you have quite the choice ahead.

This is for street photography, yes? If so, and you don't need zoom, look into the Ricoh GR V. It's an amazing camera. Pocketable APSC sensor camera!

Looks to me like a rear curtain flash, but we'll wait for James to confirm.

@vwinter & @eke2k6: Nah, that's just from a lighted ad I shot in passing. P&S and a bit of tinkering. How anticlimactic!

Taken with canon E0S rebel Xsi & Tamron 072 di II. Not bad, bought back in 08-09.

A little too tight if you ask me , chopped the paws off and composition is a little odd?

Nice textures on the first but its a little busy with all the lines IMO. The other B/ws seem better composed with nice use of leading lines!
