Post Your Photography Here #2

There are some absolutely GORGEOUS photos here. I just bought a display model D40 with an 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens at work on black friday for $250. I'm debating on whether or I should stick with the stock 55-200mm, get the VR one through my employee discount with nikon(about $140 w/shipping), or take the plunge on a 18-200mm VR for about $450ish. I'm leaning towards the 55-200mm VR since most of my pictures aren't going to be closeups. Plus the money saved from the 18-200mm VR can be used towards a macro lens or something. Any recommendations?

Sorry for going off topic. Here's a shot I took after dessert last night, and earlier this evening of my friends 240sx.

Thanx Rik for your comment. Nice pics of you as well man! I like the composition and sphere a lot. Only maybe a tad too bad the bottle on one of the photos has its label not turned towards the camera but i like the shot a lot.

Some other real nice photos on this page too. I forget the names while typing this and am too lazy to check them out but some real good ones here!

I just have 1 question...You're leaning more towards the 55-200 and not the 18-200 becuase you usually don't make closeups..? And you can save the money to get a macro..? What's your definition of closeup and with what lens can that be achieved? You just made me wonder a little here

I'm a freelance pet photograher and do some pro-bono shoots for a shelter and welfare organisation.

Here are some of my shots used in their 2008 calendar. All these animals have either been rescued/rehomed or are living the remainder of their lives at the shelter(its no-kill).

Contrastique,

Sorry. I should clarify. I don't usually take portraits. Most of the stuff I photograph are going to be very close(like tiny things on my desk, or plants), or things far away such as landscapes, architecture, etc. But things in between those distances are going to be rare for me. I feel I'd rather have strong lenses for macro, and for i suppose telephoto? Please forgive my ignorance. I'm very new to this and could use any help I could get. Thanks!

No need to say sorry. I just kinda didn't understand

From what I read a macrolens will be inevitable for you. So I'd first work with the lenses you have now and safe up for a decent macro since that is a specific range you seem to want. Those lenses are prime and usually high qual glass. It'll be better than both lensen you have now, purely qual-speaking.
After that just check what kind of range you use most besides macro and go for a better one, and by that meaning skip the 55-200 and 18-200 and look for higher qual glass.
18-200 is nice for the range and money but such a lens is always about making compromises.

Hello Head-Fi!
Lately I've been deep into the photography scene/lust/obsession or whatever you want to call it. It took away from precious headphone time, but I'm back, I'm poor, but I'm back.

Here's a fresh shot from the weekend shoot.

Hahah - ok. *WHEW!* I would presume it would be a detriment to your client base if used for your professional work!
