Making literally any changes to hardware in TrueNAS is an absolute nightmare when you know basically nothing about networking. But I got my 2.5Gb card installed, and setup on my new switch.

And it is indeed working!

It was kind of a hassle trying to find a 2.5Gb NIC that would work on TrueNAS Core. Being BSD based, there's limited driver support, so I had to try to track down an Intel-based card. Most of the suggestions I found were telling people to either throw down like $300 for a card, or just skip 2.5Gb and jump straight to 10Gb.

Grabbed this guy here for $30, and it works like a charm.

How is this for a weird setup.

Recently upgraded from a Core I3-6100 in Summer of 2022.
What surprised me the most is how much slower boot times have gotten due to the new BIOS settings etc.
Takes me 30 seconds just to see the Windows 10 logo.

PS I forgot to mention i've finally upgraded to a Mechanical Keyboard too! I'm so outdated with technology!
I hate the clicky-clacky sound so I bought a low profile one with brown switches for $25. Not bad!
Somehow I just have always preferred crappy Membrane keyboards. My last one was a Saitek Eclipse and lasted about 6 years!
It's annoying how you need to watch hours of Youtube videos just to find the correct switches for a keyboard based on your preferred click type lol.

That machine shouldn't take 30 seconds to get to the windows logo. How long is your time to POST? From POST on a modern machine, unless it's not configured properly you shouldn't be looking at more than 4-5 seconds to get INTO windows and it should be so fast that you don't even see the Windows logo.

Just recently got the 12gen MSI Aegis with 4070ti with 12700kf or something. Outputting to LG C2 OLED G-sync 120hz VRR. I'm good for awhile. lol I realized new cards arn't that much of an improvement. I would still be happy with my old1080 GTX rig. It was a beast. I think when 1080 GTX came out was when Nvidia was at their best. And I hate their current practices.

4070ti is equivalent to a 3090, but it's the newest gen. I don't build PCs. I buy fully built systems. I don't have time to debug when something goes wrong. Way too much stress on $$ spent.

You're probably getting throttling or aren't configured properly. Most prebuilts are ovens that have insufficient airflow and that causes throttling and reduced component life. You're always better off learning a thing or two and building your own computers. Get to a point where you're your own technician and you're not spending a penny on anything you don't actually need. 4070Ti is a beast of a card, I have one paired with a 13600K. If you aren't blown away by the performance you're doing something wrong. I wouldn't put it past an OEM, be it ASUS, MSI, DELL, etc to either not have you on the latest drivers out of the box OR to not have official drivers at all and have you on the default windows drivers which are cut down and out of date. Also if your RAM is XMP capable it's almost definitely not enabled and you're probably on single channel because the company that built your computer wanted to save a couple of bucks. So ya, prebuilts are a joke. Sorry.

I've ordered parts to upgrade my 3900X rig, which has been upgraded with a 5900X. and have ordered some parts from Amazon, to be delivered both here in Canada and back in my home country (to my bud's house). When I get back in February, I'd be upgrading my RX 6900 XT to the RX 7900 XTX, the former will go into my 2nd rig. My i7 3960X and i7 4770 rigs will be retired.

Looks like all you use your PC for is media and gaming-- you would have been waaaay better off buying a 5800X3D vs a 5900X. JM2C.

Seriously.

Not a good idea to use that station for listening to music. With so many 3.5" hdds, its going to cause alot of vibration and inject a ton of noise into the audio.

Would be better off with a NAS solution for the HDDs.

The newer am5 socket cpus are much slower to boot than am4. The newer firmware revisions have reduced it alot but when I did an am5 build near when it first launched, boot times were like 15-20 seconds, its now about 10 seconds with the new bios revisions. I hope they're able to reduce the times to am4 levels.

Though the 3950x is now being given to my friend. AMD sent me a replacement 5950x but needed my main PC back up and going so the 13900k was the next logical step lol. I thought about going with the 7950x or one of the new x3d but after all the things going on with them I decided to stay away.

Heard about problems with the 7xxx series X3D makes me glad I got the 5800X3D as a drop in upgrade instead waiting for the 7xxx X3D chips and upgrading to the new platform.

Gaming wise here everything I play is older, still an FPS player here myself. Honestly everything for me is usually all overkill unless I'm messing with something new or doing any kind of video editing.

I originally thought I lost my MB and not my 5950x. I hadn't actually lost a processor since back during the early Athlon Thunderbird days when one of 2 fans on my towercooler died and CPU died within seconds.
