***Please only vote if you have, or had owned, or auditioned, at least one of the following IN EACH CATEGORY, OR if you are already FULLY AND TRULY satisfied with what you have:

Which of the following sub $1000 STOCK/UNMODDED headphones has what you could consider to have, or be close to having, ideal/perfect bass?:

Denon D2000/5000

AKG 601/701/702

Sennheiser HD555/595/600/650

Beyerdynamic DT 880/990

I don't know/Haven't heard enough/Not satisfied/Other headphones

If you chose other, then please feel free to say which is best!

And which headphone will give me that deeeep, tight, controlled, ultra-low-end, subwoofer in the brain feel and without causing noticeable resonances (and without encroaching on upper bass-- ~100hz)?

It might help to make a poll.

And as far as I know, the AKG's are known for just about everything except bass (in fact, many think they sound anemic).

k70X lack bass because of the way the sound is presented but if there was a lot more, I would say it is far far ahead of dt880/d2000 bass. What I mean by this is it goes pretty deep to my ears and sounds clean, there's simply not enough of it.

Isn't the L3000 the undisputed champion in bass? Of all the phones I had heard the Edition 9 is easily the winner as far as bass goes. Anyway of the phones you list the D2000 has my favorite bass, even though it's not fit to hang out with the best.

ok, I'll definitely have to add them then, thanks!

EDIT: I think I'll keep this more in the realm of reason and limit it to sub $1000 (which doesn't include like ~$900).

What's your basis for this? Its frequency response only truly varies from the d5000 in the +1khz-3khz range. Unless of course you mean the uber overpriced phones (many audiophiles agree that you can get reference sound at $500 or less).

Didn't hear K701 from the list yet, but from all the others D2000 (stock) is superior by far. There are some other headphones with much better bass than senns and beyers too, i don't understand why did you put them there anyway and left out the others (ultrasone and grado are some good examples).

Yes, I would have included the GS1000 on the list, but it's $1000 and I feel that all the other grado's have obviously deficient bass imho (which I can back up with freq. response measurements). As for the ultrasones, I simply am unqualified regarding their lineup, but the high end ones that people seem to think are good re. bass are all well over $1000.

1. GMP 8.35 D Monitor, from German-Maestro.

3. K-702.
4. Ultrasone bass, PL650/HFI550 Very bassy and very fun headphones.

I must admit that I am utterly dumbfounded about your selection of the rs1; it doesn't even reach 60hz

(ok, it technically does, but that's like saying $10 earphones reach 20hz :p).
