Pocket Amp V2 good or bad?

I just ordered one. Gary is a great guy, very helpful, and responds to e-mails right away. He's even shipping it out this afternoon

Garrett,

I'd like to follow up on your comment, at the risk of thread-jacking. I'm having trouble committing to canalphones as the "take with me to listen on the airplane" alternative to my PX200. Another way to approach the isolation problem is to use HD280 to block out the airplane noise, which has the advantage of being a nice set of 'phones to use at home (an IEM would for me be a strictly travel-specific option).

Here's my problem. Using an iPod Mini to drive an HD280 is really stretching the capability of the iPod, at best. I doubt I'd get much extension on the bass which is actually OK since the acoustic music I listen to makes midrange the critical thing. But it may be that the sound is overall anemic and just not up to par with the iPod Mini/HD280 combination.

It sounds like you're saying a Pocket Amp V2 might nicely fill in the missing link in that setup. A little more pop for the iPod across the board and any extra warmth or bass emphasis would just counter the particular weaknesses of the Mini and the HD280 down low. Is that a fair extrapolation from your comment? If so, the plan seems obvious. Get the HD280, try it out, if it sounds weakish then add a PAV2 for 70 bucks or whatever.

Whoa, I brought along my entire amp collection (A Go-Vibe, A47 derivative and MINT) in my haversack while heading to the U.S for studies and it all went through airport security without a hitch. Not to mention a ton of computer cables as well...

Thx for the warning. Think I'll be more careful next time heh.

Firefox,
I just bought mine and got it direct from Gary at Electric Avenues rather than going through Ebay. I checked some of the Ebay listings but people were bidding them higher than what Gary charges if you email him directly. Go figure. Great customer service and it's a nice product. I got mine yesterday and used it all day today with my SR60's. It was an improvement over plugging them directly into my Panasonic CD player or my Tivoli Model Two so I'm happy. Better deep bass and overall sounds a bit cleaner through the mids and highs. This is my first headphone amp so I can't compare to other competitive products.

Go straight to electric-avenues.com to get it. Plus, he also lives in Eastern Canada iirc which would be fast for shipping (after the amp is made, ie). He charges $60 usd shipped, and people often bid over $60 usd on ebay for his amp (crazy ebay bidding mentality

100 orders a month, that is. I don't think any human could possibly build 100 amps a day...
