PLEASE HELP me find replacement cans for my AD700s! $200 and below

I owned the DT880 32 ohm and while they don't need an amp, they improved considerably with one. Something as simple as the Fiio E7 helped fill out the sound quite a bit.

Denon D2000? Heard it's very bassy. I think you need an amp for it though.

Rather than a 200 dollar headphone, it's better to get a cheap set of phones and an amp.

I have an amp already. A Minibox D. Just have to find it... I'd rather not have to be tethered to an amp, though. You guys have not converted me over these ~4 years because what do you know? Still a broke student!

I would love more opinions on the Denons. I love the sound signature of their IEMs.

they made a 32 ohm for people without amps.  the 600 versions and such do much better with bass and sound when amped, thats why they made them.  honestly, i would just keep the ad700's because they are a very nice headphone and im having a hard time finding something that competes with them.  if the ad700's had the m50's bass they would be the perfect headphone.

I agree, they would be perfect for me if they had more bass. Otherwise, I have NO complaints (well, except that I can't headbang with them

). Minus my ailing wires...

So the DT990s are the best choice thus far? The DT880s are a little outside of my price range... Too bad they look leaps and bounds better than the 990s...they've always struck me as HIDEOUS.

Thanks for all the input thus far, guys. I think this has been my most successful thread.

The only Beyerdynamic phones Id recommend without an amp are the DT440 and DT250 (though only the 80 ohm version). The DT250 sounds relatively open for a closed phone, however it still doesn't compare to an open phone such as the AD700. Overall sound is superior though. All versions of the DT770, DT880, and DT990 really benefit from amping.  Under $200 there really isn't any other easy to drive open phones that sound better than the AD700 except for the DT440. They aren't nearly as comfortable though they do have a noticeably superior bass response. Separation and soundstage are superior as well (though the soundstage is smaller). The other option is to go for the AD900 if you can spend more.

The DT440s are open too?

GO FOR GRADO!!!!!!!! pretty much made for rock, quick accurate bass*not much on the thumpy side* and great highs and mids. if your looking for super boomy*and a bit unbearable bass* go for the M50's, i couldn't stand them but people on here seem to love them.

try ATH-ES7 I got recently for around $40,   ATH-M50 for about $95  and M-Audi Q40 for about $100 is what I would recommend.   You dont want Beyers unamped, volume will be low and you won't be getting the most out of those cans.

You can also get Senn HD555 and modd to seem like 595.

I would recommend the K701 - it's what I've found I liked very much after my liking for the AD700. The soundstage is a little more "distant", and the mids aren't as sweet, but the overall presentation is somewhat similar, and the highs are sharper and much more detailed. Bass impact is similar, but the K701s extend deeper but doesn't nearly has quite the impact the AD700s do. Too bad you'd run unamped, though...

I dunno, I find the bass of the K701 to be a significant improvement over the AD700's bass in every single way. More impact, extends lower, and has a more authority, IMHO. I think the AD700 has to be the weakest headphone in bass that I've ever heard.

But yes, the K701/2 is like the higher quality AD700 that isn't an Audio Technica...

Can anyone else vouch for the M-Audis? I've never heard of them.

Are you sure you are a basshead?

Hahahaha. What sort of question is that?

AKG? Aren't they outside of my budget? I don't know, it's been years since I've fantasized about buying "expensive" headphones. I'll look them up again. Would they be worth it unamped?

I don't know, Grados have always put me off. They look uncomfortable and seem unsuited for other types of music. Is this so? But which model(s) are you referring to, anyhow?

So far, I'm more confused after having made this thread than I was before I posted it. lol
Considering (which means I need to do more research on):

MD-50
DT440
