I couldn't imagine taking open cans to my son's swimming lessons. The background noises would kill all the details in the music

To me all portable rigs are taken with a grain of salt and the understanding I'm not sitting in my man cave undisturbed while listening to some fine vinyl

I would have to spend a bazillion bucks or be Rudi to have music nirvana on the go I mean all my DAPS are iDevices and codec wise the best I'm ever going to have on these is 44.1! Your on the go and I've never put total relaxation/maximum musical immersion in this arena I mean seriously what do you think it would take to have your head wrapped in the ultimate walking sound? For me just having an accelerated heart beat while moving would have a negative effect on my sound

The main thing is I have decent sounding tunes while on the go, to expect or think I'm listening to best of the best while travelling would be Ludacris and naive on my part

I have thought about trying to put the ultimate portable rig together but just figured it would be futile and expensive to say the least. would it be full size closed cans, compact separates brick that is still case carry-able? Maybe the best combo DAC/DAP available with custom CIEM's? I'd be curious to what everyone really thought would be the ultimate sound quality for on the go?

spent the weekend with the x3 in my pocket playing flac off a 64gb card (ala amazon bundle for 250US), and the ebay sourced tf10s (183 open box). so far i have no comparison to other daps, but seem to prefer the tf10 to the um3x pairing. although i CANNOT lay down with the tf10s.

I guess value wise the iPhone 4 puts this in this category however I could also post in Troll's $<200 since the phone was FREE with service contract

You don't run that guy through an amp first?
tried through my PB2 and unamped I think it's 80% of the SQ and sometimes I just font feel like carrying around the extra bulk. The DX50 drives the 600s surprisingly well
