I wonder if my V200 amp will smoothen the treble a bit..

I might give the X2 a go with a return policy, thanks guys..

If they make the treble smoother with your other cans, then they might with the X2, but you never know...
Let's hope for the best!

I sold AKG Q701s for this very reason, as I'm sensitive to treble and couldn't stand Q701s' sound signature. X2s have the perfect amount of treble in my opinion, not too much so it's not harsh but just right so I can enjoy highs in some songs. I use them with Explorer2 which has a smooth sound that makes all headphones easier to listen to, even songs that are not recorded well.

Yep I'll think about trying the X1.

Anyway, sometimes treble sensivity also depends on ear canal shape that can cause resonances, it really is a subjective issue. For the vast majority of people I'm sure the X2 is smooth and not offensive like other headphones can be (e.g. Beyers or AKG K/Q7**)

The X2 responds to warmer amps. The X2 is quite literally neutral in tone, and I've noticed the treble sounding sparkly on my E17, and fluid/smoother on the Vali. If you want a smooth X2, the Vali makes it sound sooooo sweet.

I think I found a headphone that surpassed my beloved Focal Spirit Professional in terms of neutrality...

The X2 isn't the last word on neutral headphones.  Far from it.

I never said that. I also have the HE-500 and HE-560 which are more neutral on paper.

You said that it surpasses the Focal Spirit Professional on neutrality, which it doesn't.
I should've probably been more clear on what I was trying to say.

And what makes your opinion more valid than mines?

We all have our opinions; however, the X2 isn't really a neutral headphone.  It has neutral qualities, yes, but it isn't a true "neutral" headphone.

Sure it's not a mastering/mixing headphone but it's closer to live music than many "neutral" headphones.

Do you happen to have any experience w/ the new Magni 2 + Modi 2 compared to the Vali + Modi 2 for the X2?

No. But if the Magni 2 sounds anything like the Magni one, I wouldn't choose it for the X2, seeing as Schiit tends to like dry, fast sounding devices. The Modi and Magni were both a bit lean and quick for my taste, which I don't think suits the X2, personally. Asgard 2 wouldn't either (IMHO). The Vali, despite the higher noise floor, suits the X2 incredibly well. It'll be hard to return the loan. Love that sound.

I did hear the Magni 2 was a bit more musical and less analytical than the original which I didn't love, so that could make it fine for the X2.
