Hmm, months after using Sundara, i don't want to give away my philips x2hr, got both as used, but damn x2hr is really good for counter strike2, tried h560s, and sony ma900, dunno, prolly will keep x2hr as hall of fame for fps gaming

I've got some really nice headphones sat on my desk, but I've always kept my X2HR for gaming.

Well i still have my X2HRs just side by side with my DT 900 Pro X's ...
After i changed my amp to Aune S9C Pro, (Dac combo) ... X2HRs have a new life... way more spacial...

I use them mainly for BF2042 and Apex and although DT 900 Pro X's are amazing, i felt the X2HRs giving a big jump in terms of sound, to the point i really like them still ...

I still get that feeling when i hear a sound if it was from the headphone or if it was in my house :D

The journey continues...

I decided to balance my X2HRs with a 3.5mm 4 pole PCB mount socket as I had an extra 3.5mm-4.4mm cable I made for my T50RPs (that's why there's a right angle jack). I love balancing work - I have balanced all of the headphones in my signature. Panel mount 3.5mm / 2.5mm sockets won't fit unless you drill out the cup hole.

Straightforward (I have some experience but wouldn't call myself an expert). I didn't take pictures as I was doing it as my aged phone doesn't do close ups well.

  1. Take off pads
  2. Unscrew the driver from the LEFT side only
  3. Unscrew the small PCB that has the 3 pole socket on it. There may be a little bit of glue, it comes off with some patience.
  4. Desolder the driver wires from the PCB
  5. I dremeled out part of the cup as the 4 pole socket is slightly longer and won't fit as is. I also burred off the square edges of the socket so it fits flush with the cup.
  6. Soldered the drivers onto the 4 pole socket, then bent the legs flat otherwise the driver won't sit flush in the cup.
  7. Reassemble.

Overall, very little difference in sound except the background is blacker, a slight dullness has lifted and soundstage a little wider. What I expect from balancing in general. No change in overall balance. I love it!
I converted mine to balanced immediately after I got them. Used the same pin configuration as the Sennheiser HD 598 cs to keep it all simple. They sound even better than before. Especially with a little amplification.

I have arya v2, hd650, quad era1, grado 125x and fidelio x2hr, I'll just say that the fidelio excites me perhaps more than the others.
They are great. And unitl I got the HD800S, X2's were always my go to. Now I have the Senns though, I never use but I would never sell. They are so much fun and a great headphone.

yesterday i listened to the fidelio with a loxjie p 20 and ge 5670 tubes, the sound was incredibly rich and full-bodied, better than much more expensive headphones
They do sound great with tubes. Have to pull mine out of the drawer for another session, been awhile. Mine got some very heavy use when I grabbed them.

Can anyone recommend a shorter cable I could use with the Philips X2 as sometimes I find the 9 foot cable a bit too much especially when sitting at a desk listening off laptop/amp?
The Belkin cables are really durable and I think you can get them in 1 or 2 metre.
