Lol so I guess I lied about the whole good fps in PS2 thing.  I must have been on a not too populated server or something because I got into one of the massive debacles where everyone just stands around getting shot at and it went right down to 30.

I got so excited

Haha, yeah. Not really a lie, just how the flow of the game is. I can pull great frames and still record perfectly while I solo, then I join my outfit in their Redeployside efforts, and bam, my frames are gone, and my ping skyrockets.

  That Maxtor is still alive?!

Madness right? It's still alive, but crawling its way through life. I actually have two Maxtor drives in that rig, I just swapped one out with some other hopefully faster drive.

Well, this was the only card I could find that had both an internal SATA connector and an internal USB 3.0 header, so I decided to cut off the excess board using a band saw.

If the motherboard had a USB 3.0 header built-in and got a SATA-only PCI-e card, then I could probably fit two more 2.5" drives in there.

Does it work? If so. Niiice.

Everything except for that last USB port! I haven't tested it, and I don't want to risk plugging anything into it.

I know a lot of people haven't found justification to upgrade from a 2600K.

That's me ^^^

Just haven't found any valid reason to move away from a 3 year old  2700K (5ghz/1.47v) ...

I recently stuck two 980's in it and they bench just about on par with most of the very recent builds using the same reference cards ... the 980's don't seem to be bottlenecked much at all by the older 2700K ... and since I only run my machine from 5pm to 5am weekdays (24/7 on weekends), I figure the CPU and other components have got lots of life left in them...

I have ran my 2600k at 4.7GHz 24/7 since it came out, with slight undervolt even... I don't think failing due to running it is an issues as big as not cooling it properly or too much voltage.

I agree ...

I guess Intel just had underestimated their performance. I haven't heard many 2600k failing to reach 4.5GHz on stock voltage, granted that heat is a problem with the stock cooler they provided.

The 2500K was ridiculous value as well. Reminded me of the old Q6600, which in itself was a legendary CPU.

Q6600, i7 920, 2500K/2600K/2700K and some of the Pentium E series as well as the Pentium G6950. Ahh, the good old days.

Don't know how careful you are, or if anybody else will use your machine, but perhaps filling that port with epoxy/superglue may save you some headaches further down the line?

I covered the port with some sticky tape; that should be good enough.
