I was at the gym kicking a MMA bag with my right leg while standing on my left. Just my luck, I stepped on a f'ing peanut (WHO eats peanuts in a MMA training room anyways?) while kicking, slipped, felt my ankle collapse then my whole leg twist. EVerything just went slow motion and I felt my ankle and knee twist, make two popping noises which I also felt, then I collapsed onto the floor.

I curled up and grabbed my leg in pain and couldn't even speak. My friends were laughing and thought it was a joke but I wanted to have them get help. I couldn't speak til probably a minute or two after. They went down to one of the YMCA staff offices and an staff member came up with two ice packs and told me to put it on my knee. After a while, I was able to sit up and limp to the lockers, changed, went to Subways for a sandwich. After sitting for an hour or so at subways, we decided to leave.

I tried to get up gently but a sharp pain in my knee forced me to bust my ass getting off the chair. My friends helped me up and helped me limp away. Now I'm home, I took a hot shower and my knee and ankle is killing me. It hurts like a bitch when I try to walk or stand on it. Should I ER or man up?

Edit: Update

I'm thinking of going to the ER but it's late and we all know how long it takes to finally have someone check me out. I probably have to park 5+ blocks away and walk to the damn waiting room also. I'll probably go tomorrow if my leg still hurts. I don't plan on doing anything extreme or even walk long distances. I've been sitting on my ass for hours and I had a bit of trouble going to the bathroom and taking off my contacts. I hopped on one leg the whole way there and if I some how bounce my left leg that is tucked in, i get a sharp pulling pain in my knee. I don't know if it will do any hard if I wait til tomorrow though.

An orthopedic surgeon is what you need. They're more likely to have the right expertise for this type of injury than you'll find in the ER.

That's what I'm afraid of. If i keep my leg curled with no pressure on it and hop around, it's fine. If i put any weight on it, it starts to hurt but its bearable.

I couldn't help but LOL with my friend while still in pain when my friend found the squashed peanut.

Dude, screw that "man up" stuff and go get yourself checked out! Something like that could be serious. What would you rather have, your pride or to heal properly and do MMA again?

I'm going to take a nap, wake up in a few hours and go to the clinic. I don't think sitting down and resting the weight of my leg on my foot is good.

Anyway OP. A 'popping' noise might indicate that something ripped. I believe it was that. I had to do a test at school with all kinds of sport injuries. Take it very seriously. First thing you need to do is see some professionals. Good luck!

Urgent care, not ER.

Ok, same thing happened to me. I twisted a knee doing a double leg. A few popping noises loud enough that others could hear and then I couldn't walk on it. I could keep it curled up with Ice and hop around alright but it still hurt enough to wake me when I rolled over in my sleep. I went to the doctor a few days later when I could hop enough. Got an MRI and found out I'd done minor ligament damage and bruised bone. It's not uncommon with a twisting injury like that to a knee to do an ACL or Meniscus. A mate of mine did it at the same time in a weird pseudo knee bar he applied when passing from under side control. He ended up with a partially torn ACL with the same popping, pain, unable to put weight on it.

If I had to put money on it, I'd say you've either pulled some muscles (or other soft tissue stuff) or done some ligmanent damage. Go to your doctor. They'll either xray or MRI, or just tell you you've blown a ligament/torn a muscle.

I'm going to the doctors now. They will redirect me to a orthopedic if they feel the need to.

Possibly ACL! Get your butt to an orthopedic specialist or at least to the ER. Have a friend drive you and let you off right at the ER entrance.
