It's up and running. As a processor, it's got everything I wanted (except true multichannel analog pass-through). Sonically, it's much too early to say. This unit is going to have to burn in, before any sonic judgements are passed.
I'm playing with two different configurations, combining this with my Electrocompaniet Pre I. The easiest is to simply use the Electrocompaniet as a phono stage. A tape output from the Electrocompaniet goes into the Outlaw, which acts as the system preamp.
The second configuration is trickier. Front channel output of the Outlaw would go into an auxilliary input of the Electrocompaniet, which would drive it's own amp and speakers. Two-channel input would go directly to the Electrocompaniet and out, bypassing the Outlaw competely (my little way of getting true analog bypass...bypass the preamp completely). Sources requiring digital processing would plug into the Outlaw. The Outlaw would only have direct control over the amp running the center and surrounds, and the subwoofer. I can get the best of both worlds by running a tape loop from the Electrocompaniet back out to the Outlaw. This would let me use the Outlaw as an outboard signal processor on 2-channel analog, if desired, and probably gives me the best of both worlds (although the signals would be passing through at least two preamps in many cases)
