Thanks buonassi, I’ll give that a try.
I’ve spent a lot more time with the spiral dots on the OH500 now. My first set were really comfortable but the seal was just short of perfect. The low end just wasn’t putting out what I knew it was capable of. So I ordered some medium / large and found my sweet spot. I know bore size and seal make a significant difference on all earphones, but am still taken aback at how much they do so on the OH500. The stock tips are useless when compared to well sealed spiral dots.
My overall thoughts when listening to these earphones is the exponential advancement in both technical ability and value for money over the years. In 2014 I started using $1k + universals and customs. They were end-game as far as I was concerned. Coming back to the hobby in 2020, I’m simply astounded by how much driver ability and cohesion has evolved. Honestly, these OH500 sound much better than anything I listened to back then. They’re on another level and yet amazingly, cost a fraction of the price.
The separation, layering and imaging of the OH500 is really something else. How something achieves this level of clarity without being at all bright, is beyond me. Bass can be really powerful but those mids still have plenty of room to breath. Their detail and resolution is truly excellent yet they also sound natural. To top it off, treble is not lacking in the slightest. It’s really clear and detailed without being sharp and in your face.
The honeymoon period is well over but I love these more than ever.
