So I was short before selling my pm3, Headband and pads were damaged, I will never buy fake leather parts headphones again.
After some thoughts about replacing them with a wireless headphone, I decided to keep the pm3 and put some real leather on them. I went to a leather shop in my town and the guy put real leather on my Headband. It was quite affordable and perfect for the purpose. Then I went with the brainwavz mod, got some sheepskin leather angled pads. Now my oppo is pure leather.
Honestly, my pm3 now looks kind of DIY, the pads are really a little bit too big. Kind of nerdy. But: my sound impression with the brainwavz pads is just phenomenal. From my point the SQ is way better then the original pads. Better isolation
, Better soundstage, better clarity, better bass.
After almost getting rid of them, now I'm in love with them again

It says something for the longevity of the PM-3 that all the complaints are concerning the fake leather peeling, we certainly don't see many (or any) complaints regarding the planar drivers which can be the weak point in a PM headphone.

Got sick of that black dandruff so I peeled all of it off. Now I've got a grey headband that looks pretty good. Ned to rub a bit more along the seams but otherwise all clean.
It's a bummer the fabric is not black instead. The headphone would have looked much better that way... At least no more black dandruff, yay!

Two years ago I got lucky to find two pairs of Oppo genuine pads that I purchased for about $27 US with postage so the little planars will be good to go for another 5 years at least :)

It took me about 15 minutes. Just take it easy to avoid damaging the headband or the fabric. Start from a bold patch and rub gently against the edge. I was surprised to see how easily the black stuff peels off and how clean the fabric remains. I also used a bit of car trim shampoo, rubbing the headband with a piece of cloth.

What's the headphone band you have? I actually like the grey more than anything else I've seen. My headphone faux leather band fell off a year ago and I've just been dealing with the foam.

It's the original headband w/o the fake leather.
Did it on mine as well, but at the bottom only. Not sure how long it will last, so i'm in need of the same cover like @sabloke .

But hey, it looks great. :beerchug:

Oh, really? Do I have a completely different design? My headband is hard plastic on top and then had a half moon of the faux leather. It started coming out, so I sent it in to Oppo, they replaced it, and less than a year later it happened again. They quoted me $99 to replace it with the black headset since it was now out of warranty. I am kicking myself for not doing that now as that's no longer an option.

It looks different.
The headband of my Black ones is surrounded with foam and that fake leather.
No plastic stuff.

I have the blue ones as well and assumed like they were all like that - big plasticy metal brushed aluminum across the top.

The black and white (non-limited) options look like this though:

Faux leather all the way around! CRAZY TOWN

Do you guys know any DIYers that make PM3 leather headbands?
Lately I bought some earpads on amazon which I like more than the Brainwavz ones (too bright).
I also replaced the worn out headband with a Beyer one, but it does not cover the whole thing and looks pretty ugly...
