PM-3 are back. Pretty sure they were repaired and put back in the mail the day they arrived - so still great customer service from whomever is still kicking around Oppo's menlo park office.

They look brand new imo.

They look smokin'. You have before pics by any chance?

Like a dummy, I didn't take any. I can say that basically all of the pleather coating on the earpads had worn off, so it was just the exposed foam under them. The headband hadn't started flaking off yet, but it was covered in the little cracks that form just before everything starts wearing off.

Alright Oppo fam, looking for some cable advice. I love my ChiFi iem cables, but unfortunately there aren't as many options for TRRS. Not to mentioned balanced - which is what I would prefer. Should I just bite the bullet and go with a custom? If so, I think I'm leading toward Corpse Cable. Anyone have any experience or thoughts about the below cables?

Balanced ChiFi
Un-balanced ChiFi (looks interesting and good price and ships from US)
Or just go with a custom?

I'm not one to compare DIY costs to commercial, but the Corpse cables are a huge freaking ripoff, especially since they're made from widely available DIY parts. Mogami W2893 is available from Redco for a whopping 82¢/foot, and Eidolic connectors are available from Norne Audio for $13.50 for 2.5mm and $11.75 for 3.5mm TRRS connectors. Add that all up and it comes to $28.53. So what's the remaining $101.47 for? Soldering?
I'm going to extrapolate and say that the other cables are probably equally rip-off-ish.

I mean, heck, you could buy the materials, a soldering station, helping hands, and a cheap multimeter and still come out ahead by about $30.

Given that the PM3 phones are quite bright sounding already, my personal thought would be to avoid silver or silver plated cables and stick to the cheaper OFC. I bought silk covered Litz braid cables from Custom Cans in the UK and until the were stolen in my burglary in France along with the PM3 Phones and HA2-SE DAP, I was very happy with them. When I get back to the UK in October, Custom Cans are going to make a 2.5M set of Litz braids for my new Beyerdynamic T5P phones to connect to the Audiolabs M-DAC in my bedroom for late night listening, so I don’t disturb other family members in my house.

If that's your way, we wouldn't exclude Forza AudioWorks. We've been using his cables for years and are very happy with them. Matt's solid and his products are reliable.

I use the Moon Audio Silver Dragon cable and I think it’s the perfect match for my PM-3’s. To me the PM-3’s are on the warm side of neutral with rolled off highs. The Silver Dragon cable gets you some of that treble sparkle back and makes the PM-3’s sound more balanced. It also adds clarity to the mid-range while keeping the bass tight and punchy. For me, I wouldn’t want the PM-3’s to sound any warmer. I prefer the benefits of having the PM-3’s matched up with a good silver cable. The detail level increases, the added clarity and definition are all wins to me. That’s why the PM-3’s with its silky midrange are my portable headphone of choice :).

Thanks! I of course was aware of Forza, but in the past I felt that they were always a little out of my price range (such as the Silver Dragon mentioned by @Slim1970, though I'm sure that's a marvelous cable). But looking at Forza now, I see he's inline or better than the others, and I know they have been doing great, consistent work for years. So you guys have convinced me.

Copper Series with Bass Upgrade? Or Claire? (Same price at 1.5m)

Last question if anyone has a thought: My main source for the PM3 will be the iDSD Black Label (SE 6.5 out) so I mostly think that's how I should have the cable terminated. But I also have the XCAN, and I've never heard the PM3 balanced. I currently have the Fiio 2.5 female to 3.5 male converter for using a balanced cable with the iDSD - but I suppose that could color the sound or offset the benefits of a custom cable? 2 different cables is the long term solution, and maybe I'll do that eventually, but for starters what's the best move here? Just go with the 6.5 SE? Or try to have my cake and eat it too with the 2.5 termination and then use the converter with the iDSD? --- I suppose I could see if Forza could make a converter with the same cable?
