I do agree that the PM-1 is a step above the HD650 in nearly every conceivable way, but my statements about them being similar were in that they have a generally similar sound signature to my ears, and the PM-1 occupies the same spot in the industry that the HD650 had ten years ago.

Yes, the PM-1 primarily shares the HD650's frequency response, despite having more bass. The PM-1 is more like an HD650 in FR, than it is like an LCD-2, but that's about where the similarities end.  
 
The PM-1 has that liquid planar magnetic sound that the HD650 certainly lacks, and it's just more refined at just about every other trait, too.  I still think it's safe to say that if you like the HD650, you'd like the PM-1 / PM-2.

Thanks Mile I am big fan of HD6XX headphones so for me it's good news but better still is that it pushes its performance further so to correspond to an improvement for me, kind of the next audiophile step.

Yes, I forgot to mention that many of the differences in sound could be attributable to the fact that the PM-1 is a planar, and the HD650 is a traditional dynamic.

  Tyll's freq response curves agree with CNET's review: overall less highs than the LCD-2. Great for people who love darker cans (at least they're more comfortable than the Audeze's). But no good for people like me hoping for a more neutral and balanced sound. Hifiman HE-560 seems to be the best choice for me at the moment... 
 
I was a bit skeptic about the uniformly awesome comments of the "demo people" at the beginning or the tread, particularly in regards to the neutrality claims. Sad to hear that it really is not the case. 

I received my PM-1 last Friday. I have been running them just from the output of my McIntosh C-2300 preamp because the DAC where my WA5-LE is is due back from the latest upgrade on Wednesday.
 
I always thought the LCD-2 was a little too dark for my taste and the T1 and HD800 both with the stock cables were too bright for me too. In my personal opinion the PM-1 sits right in the middle. Right now I have been listening to them using a Mac Mini dedicated server with linear power supply feeding a Bricasti M1 DAC with the latest upgrades and then to the C-2300 McIntosh preamp. IMO the best range of the PM-1 is the midrange, It is very natural but the bass also goes deep when required. The highs are right there when needed too but without being piercing and/or fatiguing. I have tried both the leather and velour pads and I personally like the sound and comfort of the velour pads better.
 
From memory I think the LCD-3 are stronger at both end of the frequency spectrum but again I have not spend a lot of time with them to really have a strong opinion.
 
I will wait until I get my DAC back to tried them in my Woo and compare them to my HE-6 driven my my Threshold T50 speaker amp.

My thoughts exactly. It's a great middle-of-the-road contender.

Has anyone compared these to the HE400? That's what I currently have, and I was thinking about upgrading to the HE400i/560, but these caught my eye.
 
I'm mostly looking for comfort, soundstage, and subbass (love the HE400), and price isn't an issue.

I agree as well......but wait 'till you hear them after the diaphragms have been flexed and exercised. I won't tell you what I did (y'all will think I'm crazy) but they sound even more wonderful now.

After 48 hours running straight I already noticed a change for the better. Are you saying you already made some kind of modification to them????

Did you soak the diaphragms in water, then use your shoe laces to hold them tightly wrapped around a baseball and leave them in your freezer overnight?
