Any suggestions of some OTL Tube Amps? Not framiliar with OTL at all, only tube amp I have ever had has been my Little Dot mkII

well about $200-250 max I guess, I would consider selling my LD mkII if this amp would be superior which would add maybe another $120 or so I think.

In that case I will suggest the Darkvoice 336 - works well with those headphones, and is in that general price range (that's about the lowest you will find for a decent tube amp).

Around $200 only? Hrm... maybe some Darkvoice amps would be in that range, but you should save up and go for a OTL Woo Audio amp of some sort.
 
I heard the DT880's on the MKII and did not like it's sound at all. It sounded off to me. Maybe the MKIII would be better buy I have not heard my phones on it so I can not comment.
 
For a taste of tubes, get a PHENIX G3 or G7. Both are sub $200 and will drive them nicely (but don't expect them to be driven to their full potential). I had the G3 version and it sounded great with my DT880.

I can certainly vouch for the MKIII.   Pair these up with the right combination of Mullard/Sovtek tubes, and any 600ohm beyer models will sing. Frank_1 and Marouzen have no problems running their T1's off the Mark II,  you might wanna tube roll a bit to see if the sound becomes to your liking. Getting a better source helps as well.

Thanks for the advice so far everyone, more than anything I was just trying to get some background info on possible amps for the dt770 assuming I got that route which is dependent on my dt990 250ohm selling. I might give some tube rolling a shot with the mkII, wouldn't mind a new amp but at the same time there isn't anything I find clearly wrong with the mkII. So far it has been awesome aside from the included RCA cable dying a very early death for no real reason aside from it seemed to feel like it.
 
As for source, I'm considering/looking into budget cd player's right now, hoping to find something solid for around $100, if that is possible I will jump on it no question.

Get an Oppo universal disc player, I think they sound very good for the money. There's one out there for $169 I believe. It's in my MusicDirect catalog.

finally snagged a dt770/600 once again, slapped on the alpha pads, plugged it into the DV336se 
and this baby sings like a lark. very very satisfied with this forgotten gem.
( i know this thread is forgotten too..anyway do try the alphapads )

I thought I was going to be the first to try this, apparently not. I just got my DT770 600 ohm Premiums in the mail today and was curious if the Alphas I'm using on my D2K would fit or not. I'm glad they will!

One tip that I found make a huge difference and easily rolled back. I removed the foam in front of the driver. Not really needed since alpha pads has it's own driver cover built in. It makes the sound much more open, clean and better clarity and details

I actually ended up taking the Alphas off. I own a Denon D2000 and will just use the Alphas on those. I'm kind of liking the mids of the DT770, and the Alphas take them away from me. The only real plus to having the Alphas on them was the increased bass response, but if I want bass I'll just listening to the D2K.

Since my last post, i actually took out the alphas, and had been listening to the stock beyerpads.
But two nights ago, whilst tweaking my other cans, i reinstalled the alphapads onto the DT770/600ohms...
and i distinctly heard a bigger soundstage that sort of went "outside, beyond"  the cups...!? 
Dun think the alphapads are going anywhere..its on permanent duty with the DT770
 
hmmm....didnt suffer/miss the lost of the mids on my setup, been swapping tubes on the dv336se to notice it
A Raytheon 6AS7 is sending my alphapads reverberating to some phrrrrooompy classicals.

old thread, but I love my dt770 - 600 ohms. I don't know what year they were made, but they are the best headphones ever for using with my tube amp. Much better than HD650's because they 1. isolate better, blocking out unwanted external sounds 2. actually sound more realistic than the Senns and they have a huge soundstage for a closed headphone. Bass is not exaggerated, it is perfect. It appears they don't make this model anymore?
