i am an audio newbie. just starting off with that. i am studying music (classical) in school and listen to a wide range of music. Mostly alternative, but also classical and rock. I feel like i have been reading so much the last few weeks and everytime i almost decide on a set of headphones someone says you should definitely not go for them and suggests another. i feel like i am on an endless loop. 
 
open vs closed. i initially wanted closed because i would like to listen while im in the library and on airplanes but the more iv read the more iv begun to lean toward an open design. Are there any open headphones which tend to isolate sound better than others? i dont want to bother people around me. i also want them to be comfortable as i will listen to them for long durations of time. any help would be greatly appreciated.

None of these exceptions are at your price! I learned that the hard way!

The HARX900s isolate well.
I think that there are nice open and closed headphones at any price range.
