This is an exciting time for those of us who have been listening to music their whole lives...I started in the 1950's listening to a handheld AM transistor radio for my listening pleasure...boy have things changed for the better!

Totally. :) The pocket radio that I smuggled into my boarding school was what kept me going for years and now even. FM is the original shuffle. But, boy, if we only we had access to these magical IEMs and DAPs while we were still kids! Sometimes, I let go of work and money, just to have a little extra time with my music now. Talk about priorities.

For the features it offers the DP-X1 is hard to beat and especially at this price.

SQ SE may be bettered elsewhere, granted, but for those looking for a DAP with streaming, SE and Balanced, expandable storage and capable of playing most file formats and is Android powered, you cannot go far wrong IMO

As an all in one package the DP-X1 has to be one of the better options currently available.

YMMV

I agree, seems to me DP-X1 and X7 triggered a new generation of "reasonably" priced DAPs. Look at DX200, it's shaping up to be quite a formidable DAP too with the latest ESS DAC available, even I seriously am considering of switching to that.

My question is why don't these DAP makers just add phone functionality? I'm joking of course, but the thought is intriguing. Hell Oppo has phones, but surprisingly according to testing at gsmarena they measure horribly, at least the few I've seen in their comparisons. FiiO Phone, or the ONKYO Call? Kind of catchy names I think.

I'm more in support for these audio manufacturers to just specialize in making modules for future modular phones. Just think of the possibility of having super nice super AMOLED Samsung screen with much much smoother UX, paired with huge battery and reasonably thick but well implemented DAC/AMP. The future is so exciting.

I just come across the 4th player app, it calls Teac HR Audio Player. It is a twin to the Onkyo HF Player, but I think you will be safer with this one together with the default Music app.

I know, and that likely is what is going to happen, but it will be sad to see companies like FiiO and Questyle, and others who would potentially cease to exist, or just have less money to innovate and develop their offerings. Hell if I was FiiO I would be partnering with a major phone company to become the designer and builder of their audio sections. Better to anticipate the disruption than to get swept away by it. Recently I moved to Bluetooth and I couldn't be happier.Loved my DP-X1 as everybody in this thread knows, but I have to be honest, I'm not really feeling a huge void now using an LG G3 and a B&O H7 which I think I prefer to the PM3. It might be if I had a PM3 with me still I would detect things it does better, but I have to say, the H7 sounds freaking awesome. I could use a little more volume from it at times, but it gets me 90% to my preferred listening level which frankly was way too high so this is actually helping me re-train my brain in an effort to preserve my still very good hearing.

Totally, I support this as well, and the reason why I am going to buy G5 ASAP ! It is totally possible to have a powerhouse processing power of G5 flagship phone, then high-end DAC amp module....hell, they can be priced as much as $500-2000, it won't be much different than what the high end DAC amp is costing nowadays anyways.

And have you seen this ?

I was also all set for the G5, and if I wanted wired for portable that was going to be my phone/DAP for sure. Although it sort of is if you think about it. The H7 has a B&O DAC/amp in it and I have a G3 phone. I'm quite sure the DAC/amp in the G5 module from B&O will be quite a step up from what is in the H7, but I'll bet for 16bit audio playback which is what I use, it won't sound that much different if at all. Who knows, I could be wrong. Anyway, yes the V10 and now the G5 are the new wave sweeping into the marketplace and going to disrupt portable audio I suspect, at least these niche markets where the dedicated DAP is currently on top. I would love to see FiiO design some modules for the G5 if it is viable to do so. As some of us are saying, the wave is easy to see out there at sea, it is only a matter of time until it hits the land!

So in terms of player app, I will line them up: Music , Teac HR Audio Player, Neutron, Poweramp.

Unless I may have missed something from and earlier post, have you also considered UAPP (Universal Audio Player Pro)?

Onkyo DP-X1 & Acoustic Research M2 ??

Forbigger, I am in HK as well, and the latest firmware removes the volume cap.  With wifi on the player should prompt you for an over-the-air update and once installed, you're all set.  After the firmware upgrade, line level output is about 12dB louder than before - quite a difference.

thanks. the latest firmware ,would this mean firmware where a sizeable part of owner claimed the sq was not as good. if thats the case i guess i better wait

Another member said he had no issue and that he was a member on an Asian audio forum where nobody was reporting a sound quality change. Not sure what to say, but it was mentioned that the lock range and filter go back to the default so perhaps for the people reporting a quality reduction that might explain it, plus, to be fair, people can imagine things as well so don't rule that out as a possibility. I'm not saying that is the case, but it is a plausible explanation as well.
