To be more accurate, this 'optimizing apps' is actually to recreate the Dalvik cache (you can google it to find out more).
Hence, it occurs on boot up whenever the Dalvik cache is wiped (and thus there is need to recreate this cache)

Obviously, the Dalvik cache is wiped when updating (hence the 'optimizing apps' that you have experienced).
There are other ways in which the Dalvik cache may be wiped (i.e running recovery scripts/wiping through recovery, etc.)
This may sound foreign to you, but that's just how Android works.
In your case, you probably unwittingly wiped the Dalvik cache somehow.

so it is due to cache clearing prior to uninstalling the apps?

No.
The cache is separate from the dalvik cache.

I uninstalled some Google bloatware when I bought the device but it never had to re-optimize the apps (and delay my playing any music for nearly 2 minutes) till after I did the SW update.
So to test it out the next few days, I have reinstalled all the default Google yuckware.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. Do you mean that until you reinstalled the bloat-ware that the music player would take a few minutes to respond as the OS was likely trying to communicate with the missing bloatware?

I guess he is referring to the 2 mins boot up delays due to apps optimizing.

Precisely.

There was no Apps Optimizing 2-minutes boot up issue till after the SW update.

I had deleted those bloatware on the first day I bought the device so I have now re-installed them to see if it solves the problem. It is now 8:30 a.m. over here. I just booted it up and the Apps Optimizing screen did not come on. I shall monitor the next few days.

My AK balanced cable works fine with the 2.5 TRRS output of the DP-X1

As I stated on my last post we should be OK using balanced cables that work with AK players. Apologies for the confusion.

In some other news, I received the player today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Updating to the latest software version. It is kind of late, so I won't be able to test it tonight and I don't receive my balanced cables from UE until Wednesday.

Without doubt, AK and Onkyo players have the same pin assignment. Your problem is the headphone - Oppo PM3 TRRS pin assignment is the same as HiFIMan players'. So, try HiFIMan-to-AK adapter that alters the pin assignment. This member got one done successfully from Whiplash cables: http://www.head-fi.org/t/756828/oppo-pm-3-the-portable-planar-impressions/2535

Or,http://www.doublehelixcables.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=150

Thanks for this. I was worried that if I used my balanced cables for my AK that I would end up frying my Onkyo. I guess I can go ahead and try it now.

Anyway, what are your verdicts on the Onkyo vs otger players?

Hi,

Under the HD Library Sync function, there are three sub items: Automatic, Music Folders and Sync Now
Every time I insert a new card, it seems hit and miss for all the albums to appear in my album listing. Which of the 3 options should I be using to make sure they all appear?
Thanks.

You need to be a little bit more patient. The DP-X1 reads fast, but not that fast. I usually leave the Automatic checkbox ON, and only click Sync Now (then Sync All) once and let it scan. I have two 200 GB cards and it scanned all of my FLAC and DSF files no problem. It even read my m3u playlists flawlessly.

I'd say check back 10 minutes after you clicked on the Sync Now button.

I changed to another SD card and my DSF files are still a problem. In the middle of a track sometimes it will just pause, stutter and move on to the next track. It doesn't happen with FLAC. I have two 128GB SD cards filled only with DSF and they play flawlessly on other DAPs.

On pause/stutter, lock range set to normal? If not try that

Edit: else use another sdcard and try with same settings

Has anyone had trouble connecting to 5 GHz wifi networks after the firmware upgrade?  With the original firmware, my DP-X1 never had any trouble connecting to my home 5 GHz AC network.  Since the firmware upgrade, it cannot even see any 5 GHz networks, much less connect to them.  I performed a factory reset, but this did not seem to help.  I can only connect to 2.4 GHz networks now.

I've been using 5 GHz both before and after the update. No problems. Other problems have been detailed elsewhere but not relating to wifi.
