This is interesting... a more expensive price of 100R is $540 and a cheaper price of DP-X1 is $580.
Their price difference is only $40...but they give a lot of upgrade for that (better UI, dual dac, dual amps, etc).
It could be that they will be priced the same in the end... maybe many months later.
Pioneer's appearance is good besides its bigger size. Onkyo device is known to be much smaller.

1,630mAh and over 10hrs playback time? that's impressive for a full screen android DAP.

Pioneer 100R lasts 16 hours (24bit 96kHz FLAC) with 1630mAh.
It totally wins in battery life... none of other DAPs on the market can last this long.
AK240 lasts for 4 hours or so. DX100 lasts less than 4 hours for the most of time.
Smartphone and an external DAC combo can last five hours to six hours.

I'm a sceptic. While the price is very attractive, I'll wait for a demo set. Though my interest in the DP-X1 is geniune, I'm still more than happy with my ancient DX100.

Speaking of dx100, how does it hold up against modern DAPs? Was thinking of hooting a more powerful DAP since apparently everything I own is rather power hungry. So far im looking at cowon P1, dx100, dp-X1, ARM2, hm901 and QP1R. Does the dx100 drive the ex1000 well enough?

OT a bit, how'd you keep your ex1000 in such good condition? Saw it around your neck while you were at for a while MS a few days ago. My paint is alr visibly flaking on one side

Hows it sound?

I've read only few superficial comparison reviews that say 100R sounded worse than Paw Gold...
That's all I remember about it.
Calyx M also suffers from less than 4 hour battery life... some people say it lasts only three hours.
This is quite amazing considering that it has real DAC architecture and last for 16 hours.
Its frequency range reaches impressive 80kHz as well.

ZX2 can last for ways more than that :D if battery is your main thing. Though, how does DP X1 compare to ZX2 in sound quality ?

Only if you want to pay $1200.
You can buy both Onkyo and Pioneer DAPs for that money...ZX2 has only one microSD card slot and worse UI, touchscreen, wi-fi, design, CPU, OS.
ZX2 is already out of the league as well unless Sony drops its price down to $300. If ZX3 costs $1500, Sony's DAP department will bankrupt in two weeks.

Zx2 doesn't use off the shelves DAC. They engineer it in the house with pure Class D technology....so these are both different kind of DAP. But considering the pricing value, yes....ZX2 costs much more
