I'm lurking also in fiio x5iii page.. What do you think is the advantage of dpx1a to fiio x5iii? :grinning:

My biggest gripe on X7 is the FW. My X7 is a dead paperweight for me now. Simple things like gapless playback never work as expected. X5iii will be sharing the same Beta 3.0 FW which is currently being tested with X7.

I already like DP-X1A over X7 on 2.0 FW sans bugs. Someone already commented that X7 still sounds a little better than X5iii.

Onkyo currently has a 10% WinterSale promotion for the new DP-X1A on amazon.co.jp - where if purchased from abroad, the price for order checkout is 62.222 JPY minus the 10% discount, which is 56,000 JPY (=$475). Shipping and hanling fees to US/Canada are only 1275 (=$10.82). I grabbed one right away.

I just used a currency converter to UK pounds sterling (am based in London) and it came up as £385!
That's staggeringly cheap; I hadn't paid too much attention to the pricing, but for the new DP-X1A, I thought I'd have to pay £650 - £700!
I looked at the link you provided. Unfortunately, I can't read Japanese.

I can see a promotions box saying "10%". However, I've no idea what needs to be done to actually apply this discount when paying?

Also, my UK Amazon login is presumably going to be invalid on the Japanese site, and I've no idea how to create an Amazon account in Japanese >.<
Would anyone (Japanese speaking or otherwise) be able to help me out? And any idea if they deliver to UK, and if so, how much it would cost for delivery?

Thank you for the info... What music app are you using?

Sound exactly the same to my ear. Had both for a week. The only difference for sure is the added 32GB of internal storage.

If A version sounds the same or similar to the normal 1B, then I can tell you that Opus 2 is miles ahead. Anyways, I never recalled myself enjoying the 1B as much as Opus 2. The implementations differences are jaw dropping. Pricing differences, and the thread is for Onkyo, but I just want to share that if someone who love the general sound of Onkyo, but think it is lacking something, you probably need to give Opus 2 a look :D.

Which digital mode are you using? 32 or 24 bit? :)

You can create a new amazon.co.jp account also when you switch to EN (the globe icon in the upper right corner) - then the discount and shipping cost should be easily readable.
