Some comments on the X7 from Chinese forum

am1 is not good sounding even owner complains

am2 is better but it still not a 2.5 balanced

Wifi interference is there and fiio suggest that every other dap has the same issue which is unheard of for dp-x1 owner.

Fiio marketing team tried to ban dp-x1 discussion in Chinese forum (rumor)..bad

I'm not trying to down talk X7 but it feels as if this time, they promise so much and with all the trust they have been given, they tried to bite more than they can chew and they don't want to admit it. Even Onkyo with DP-X1 still have issues that they must gradually solve and they are responding in quite a timely manner for a big company. The big complain about folder browsing is also reaching its conclusion and from hardware side, there's almost nothing that interferes with DP-X1's functionality.

Fair enough but I am hoping the DP-X1 achieves USB DAC functionality by the time of the International release. I use that function frequently on my DX90 and it is very convenient and nice to have implemented.

I find the X7 to be a great concept, built taking into account headfiers wishes and feedback, with a no compromise approach while being priced agressively. I feel it was a rushed product though, the wifi module design flaw should have been detected at the latest during QA, the early firmware was really immature although they work hard at fixing them and even provided Google Store support that was not in the original spec. X7 II should be a killer product.

@LoryWiv now that is the one big question mark. Onkyo got its own dedicated DAC/AMP product both portable and desktop class, if they do include support for USB DAC then will it cannibalize their other products?

DP-X1 is built in such a way that EMI won't be an issue, as WiFi is on a separate board than the DAC/Amp, along with the SoC...
I had the ZX2 before and it didn't have EMI. The X7 did. Someone on the X7 thread did a teardown and apparently the wifi module is close to sensitive audio component...he fixed it by shielding the wifi module with some isolating material but the wifi signal got trimmed down...

I actually don't bother to discuss X7 issue , but as someone like to compare it with dp-x1 fairly. Therefore I bring it up.

Our dp-x1 owners have been banned in two Chinese forums where Fiio is a major advertiser. I don't like market manipulation like this.

I recently took a medical hearing test. And I found out that my hearing is damaged. From 5,2 KHz to 8 KHz my hearing is 15-25 dB lower than normal. On my mac I compensated that area with EQ, and WOW, I´m really missing out those fine details in the treble. It´s not so much the music that is compromised, but the sound space and those nice little details.

So now I´m looking for a new DAP. My AK120 has only a four band graphic EQ, and that doesnt do the trick. The parametric EQ in my Onkyo HF player is perfekt. I can really shape the sound to match the damage to my hearing. Is the EQ in DP-X1 the same one, where I can pinpoint exactly which frequency to adjust?

I´v read most of this thread, and it´s a pity that EQ isn´t global. I´m listening to Tidal a lot. But as I have a huge hires catalog, it´s a huge gain for me only to be able to EQ my own music properly. Hope Onkyo is reading this thread and taking notes.

Yes, it is even more refined than the Onkyo hf player app :D. Thank you guys who have been comparing and mentioning X7. Now I will toss it aside....noises is ugly....I keep missing the Dp-X1 trebles and soundstage :o

Dear addyg,

If you look at the X7 thread right here in head-fi, you'll see that people are completely free to discuss every flaw they find in the X7. I do not have mod powers in general but I do have it in the FiiO subforum here on head-fi, and there I have gone so far as to unhide negative posts that were hidden by other mods (not FiiO employees), because I wanted to answer their concerns.

I am not responsible for our work in any Chinese forums, but do not see our general policy of being open and honest being any different there. One difference is that anti-shilling (forum members being paid to badmouth competitors' products) is allegedly rampant in Chinese forums, so forum admins are hard-pressed to pick out such anti-shills and ban them, to maintain a more-or-less breathable forum atmosphere.

You can see how a user giving honest negative opinions on product can get caught up in such general warfare. And if it happened in head-fi without our input (I still have no idea who instructed those negative posts in the FiiO forum to be hidden; in all probability some mod (only for a few times in the years I've been here) thought there was something fishy about the post and hid it per his own volition), it certainly can happen in China. Though we had no hand in their bannings and can't do anything about it (since I know of no Chinese forum where FiiO has mod powers in addition to being an advertiser), they have our condolences.

Best regards,
Joseph Yeung
FiiO representative

Here is a popular reviewer of Fiio in China. Here is what he has taken a photo of a dp-x1 and insulted with defensive words.

We are not responsible for what members of the public in a FiiO thread say or do about competitors' products.

Regardless, your photo does exactly nothing to identify who this "popular reviewer" is.

I hope that even Onkyo has no official reseller in China. Fiio as a market leader should not use their marketing force to ban Onkyo users the freedom of discussion.

And you have my prayers to go along with yours. But I'm sure your concerns are unfounded at this point. ;)

What is the link to this? I'm interested in reading what this "popular reviewer" has to say about the DP-X1, heh.

The reviewer got many first hand Pre-production fiio products therefore he is closely related to fiio in some way. His way of insulting another successful product make our owners angry.

I am not sure posting his link will cause another big mess for fiio's PR. Let me re-think of this matter.
